Lb7 low oil pressure at running temp

I have never seen a different brand of the same weight oil help with a low oil pressure problem. I have seen where a higher viscosity (such as a 20w50 vs a 15w40) will raise oil pressure on an engine that needs some help. It isn't a real fix, but it may be a bandaid to get you by until you can afford to pull the engine and install some new bearings.

You guys just kill my hopes hahaha. I'm just hoping I can re-use my pistons at ~270k miles vs buying new. It doesn't have tons of blowby. I sent an oil sample in just to ensure its not fuel. The oil level isn't climbing.

If it makes you feel any better, I was seeing around 30 psi oil pressure at 2k+ RPM when I was loaded (around 38-40 psi empty at around 1800) on my truck. I switched to 20w50, and I now see around 44 psi loaded at 2k and 46-48 empty at 1800. I'm going to keep running 20w50 until I start seeing pressures drop with that, and I'll address it at that time.

My concern is that the truck won't like to cold start below zero with 20w50. Usually I run 15w40 or if its going to be a cold month/few months I run 5W40.

235-240 when I was loaded and seeing 30 psi. 210-220 unloaded with higher pressure. Temps ran the same after switching to 20w50 with much better pressure.

i dont think you are really far off from what most see at those temps.

how does it compare now with the 2020 cooler?

Thanks for the input you guys have been some damn good help and i really appreciate it. Imma save up some cash and just do a rebuild on the bottom end and a partial on the top end as well as reset my valve lash. I will post when the job is done and let you all know what was found. Thanks again very much.

If I may suggest some cheap upgrades you’ll appreciate for reliability in the future, delip your lb7 pistons and run lbz rods if you’re already pulling everything.

I have not noticed any improvement in oil pressure despite lower oil temps showing on my gauge which is what makes me question the validity of my gauge readings compared to the readings I saw in the old sensor location. If anything, presides actually seem to be down just a tad which makes me wonder if I’m seeing a large pressure drop across the oil filter. They have changed up the filter bypass in the new filter head which is good, but perhaps the new filter is slightly more restrictive. I may see about picking up the correct filter for the new filter head.

Good idea man thanks for the tip. Any other tips you have up your sleeve. While im replacing bearings and have the whole bottom end apart? Ive already built the top end a little has a fresh head gasket and arp studs fresh gaskets from heads upeven the turbo.
