If i had the sponsorship backing like most all these guys have I'd do it but I'm not going to piss away 20 grand trying to play with guys with 60+ into their rigs and help from sponsors lol
Kinda like bringing a revolver to a machine gun battle eh...

What are you doing about the front axle? Can you upgrade that to the 2500HD version?

I'm not sure what I should do there. The 8.25 is weak & there's no fix for it. I have a 9.25 here but I'm not sure what it would take to make it fit & I don't have my truck here. Another thing about that is I'm running a 3:42 gear so I'd have to change the 9.25 to 3:42. Kinda sucks. Maybe just run it like this. It has cut 1.57 60s like this.

Last April we took our bone stock LB7 tow pig & built it to run 11.90s in a week. Now we're taking a 10.5 truck & we have 4 weeks. I like the odds!

Scott has the intake, pedestal, turbos, intercooler & van thermostat housing at his shop. He'll be thrashing all weekend to get most of the fab work done. Can't say enough good things about the guy. In the mean time we have all kinds of ideas down here & no truck so all we can do is plan for it's return. Short block is ready, wrapped in plastic & waiting for more go fast parts to show up. Stage 2 heads, rocker arm studs, chrome moly push rods, billet injector clamps & oil pump left So Cal diesel yesterday.

We're still running the Allison on this truck so we'll see how that holds up. We're changing the C3 clutches but aside from that it should be fine. It's made 9 passes in the tens on this Trans but with the stock motor I was stretching out the shifts to keep the motor together. Now that it'll be a 6 speed & a race engine we'll see if it likes no defuel.

Run stock TCM defuel. Not trying to be an ass, but don't be stupid with the TCM in a light truck, been there done that. That truck is lighter than my old LB7 by a few hundred lbs, that trans will live just fine. Adjust your shift points only. I ran for over a year and 25 10 second passes like this, trans looked great inside.

I agree with you 100%. I leave the tcm tune stock aside from shift points. I like to control my defuel in the ecm tune only. Changes to torque management in the tcm can kill an Allison in a hurry.

At your weight if it's setup right the trans shouldn't give you any problems. Playing with no defuel will get expensive quick and is not needed for fast clean shifts. Good luck with the build its going to be a beast.

Thanks man. I'm probably calling defuel & torque management two separate things because from a tuning perspective they are different. Torque management is vital & actually keeps the shifts "fast & clean" like Evan put it. Torque management comes from the transmission controller in most cases. When I say defuel I'm referring to the ecm cutting fuel hard during the shift as opposed to just dropping enough mm3 to complete the shift without creating a tie up.

Example when I was running this truck in the 11.90 index the shifts were perfect. As I turned up the power they got sloppy. I made changes to the engine tune until the shifts were quick even at higher power levels, but due the amount of torque it had to be seeing right after the shift, I set the tune back to having more "defuel" in the shifts. Mostly to keep the rods straight. All this was with the torque management tables untouched it the tcm.

Sorry for the long story but I love going on about this.

Oh man I wish I would have known sooner! Scott's already building the kit. He's having a blast making everything fit onto the dang 1/2 ton frame lol. Looks like we'll be running a modded Mishimoto LBZ intercooler with an LLY radiator. No other way the pieces fit. Have to ditch the electric fans the truck had & installing Flexalite fans.

Where's the Merchant Automotive of the LS world?! Can't get my hands on a decent set of solid motor mounts! Duramax guys have it made when we don't try to be different:rofl:

Scott has the triple kit done & my cousin is about to pick the truck up & bring it back here. There are so many variables it seems almost impossible that we'll be ready in time! Race motor's sporting stock injectors & turbo in the shop truck. It's getting some much needed break-in & I'm getting to know what this cam likes. Ended up using a SoCal 9200af. Turns out you CAN run it with .075 valve reliefs.
