While I agree it is BS for the school to promote the students' celebration of a Mexican national holiday, I must say that I disagree with the wearing of the flag. I know most people think it is patriotic to have the flag on your clothes, I feel it is disrespectful. As is the case with most laws, they are open to interpretation, but here is what the US Flag Code has to say. I actually think more people should familiarize themselves with the rules that go along with displaying the flag, especially if they are flying it. It irritates to see someone displaying a flag incorrectly, but nothing is worse than seeing someone flying a flag it is tattered and coming apart.

I wonder if the principal first proved it was in fact an authentic replication of the United States of America flag?

It is just sad, that the American flag is considered a racist / political statement.
I think that this could be a great case for the ACLU (as much as I hate their silly arguments), maybe this is a Supreme Court case in the future.

There is a difference between a flag and a picture of flag.

You can light your BBQ with a newspaper flyer of a 4th of July sale, and you could line your birdcage with it.

You should not take a flag, and make clothes with it.

A T-shirt with a picture of a flag on it, is not a flag.

A red, white, and blue bandana is not a flag either, nor is a tablecloth.

Now, is a Peter Fonda "Captain America" jacket disrespectful? That will always be a debate.

X2.. Both my grandfathers were in the service and they dont think the flag is for anything other than flagpoles, burials, or uniform patches. Most people dont even know which way its supposed to face on a uniform. Also have those kids worn their patriotic apparel on any other day or did it just happen to be on cinco de mayo?

I hear what you are saying and agree with most every thing but one point Doesn't matter which day you where it this is America first and foremost. Here is a speech from a former President to a group of immigrants

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

I'd be willing to bet the farm, that if the roles were reversed, and it was 5 mexican kids wearing mexico's flag on an american "independance" day....nothing would have been done. Its rediculous.

It already does happen. All the time. And yet, nothing is done about it. I also seen in Texas, the Mexican flag being flown ABOVE the American Flag. But yes, this is ridiculous. I'm not racist. I fully believe in EQUAL rights. So if that was the case. Why are they not getting in trouble for wearing their flags on their shirts on American holidays?

It was at Live Oak school. The principal will get reprimanded, the board already said that they disagree with the principal so its only a matter of time now before something happens.

If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racist.
You are proud to be black, brown, orange or yellow, and your not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride you call us racists.
You rob us, Carjack us, and Shoot at us....But when a white police officer shoots a "minority" gang member or beats up a drug dealer running from the law posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.
You have black history month, black college, and BET. I am proud, but you call me racist? Why is it only whites can be racists?
I'm sorry if I offended anyone, or if anyone finds this improper. But we are losing our rights in this country and dishonoring what people fought and sacrificed their lives for the past 200 yrs.

Not to play devils advocate but the people who have sacrificed were all immigrants from Europe.

what makes it such a real big joke is that cinco-de-mayo is not even a real holiday. its not mexico's independance day. their national independance day is sept. 16. cinco-de-mayo was made up by the popular beer maker "corona" to promote beer sales. so the dumbass kids that said it offended them dont even know the deal, they're just trying to get screamin "it offended me" because thats what soceity has taught them. but that goes right along with how this country is now, its seems to be all about "what can i get for free or from somebody without having to do anything for it"

What? what school did you go to?

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that commemorates the Battle of Puebla. In like the mid 1800s when Mexicans beat the french in the battle. :thumb:

Pretty sure it wasnt a 'corona' sponsored war lol.
