Definitely get and oil temp gauge in it! Mine is running 180-220 degrees averaging just over 190degrees and I am 6K lbs 2wd, could only imagine what your actually seeing for oil temps. Your sound is probably not far off stock because of all the stock parts you are running. It takes big plumbing, turbo, cam, etc. to really change the tone of the motor.

Adam, from what I have found.

Sustained higher RPM but low egt is harder on the oil than lower rpm(2200 and below) and higher EGT. I see you have gears and cruise at 2400rpm+. I wouldnt be surprised if you see 250*+ oil temps with a moderate load on the truck. I saw 274* in my LB7 towing 10,000 up a 6* grade for 8 miles at 55mph in 4th gear.

Oil temp gauges really opened my eyes in these trucks with temps. I value a oil temp gauge more than EGT. We only realize our trucks get hot when the engine fan comes on, well, what are the oil temps to drive the coolant temps up? You dont know untill you put a gauge in the truck, and I can promise you, your oil temps will always be higher than coolant temps while towing.

X2, exactly right! I will be upgrading my oil cooling because I love higher rpms and oil temp climbs quick when you jump the rpms up for longer periods of time.

on this trip form ohio to wisconsin with a heavy load with by sail area plsu 20mph head winds.. im sure its high.. actually could watch the oil pressure drop when climbing a grade.. avg OP was 45psi are 2200-2300 with this load. caught it down to 38-40 on a grade same rpms full throttle.. backed off and OP came back up.. giving the charaterisitic that it beign heat related..

i rarely see ECT temps above 200*... fan will come completely on at 200* (hyd 2886 clutch.(more repsonsive then the stock lb7 i had). also keep in mind i dont have a bumper siting in front of the radiators like the regular trucks do.. means more airflow)

im thinking putting one of these on for my setup with a thermostatic bypass i dont think i need the 601

I know with my oil cooler, with oil temps at 165*-180*, at 1800rpm im at 62psi. GM spec is 42psi @ 1800, so im well above that.

I see 42 PSI at 1650 RPM, but my motor was built really lose (insert mom joke here). What oil are you running?
Superdiesel spec'ed out a really nice setup in his thread, I have been running his setup and have had 0 issues towing with triple oil cooled turbos

i can swap my ect to oil easily if the t-tape doesnt keep then sensor from grounding

im head to columbus ohio tomorrow with a generator (~5500lb)

i will run this for 10k then proably swap to syn..
how much does it cost per 10qts?
i run 10,000 miles every 5-6 weeks,
35.00 for delo 1300 from walmart plus a 10.00 B1441 oil filter
45.00 for an oil change.

that cost me ~4.5cpm

only thing i would be really sold on is if i could extend my service interval by min double..

i did that with my fuel filters... spent 100.00 in setup and it will last 60-75,000 miles and cost 37.00 in filters( 2 micron fuel and a f/w sep) per change vs the oem every 10-15k

cost to service life is something i have to take into effect..
with the oil cooler i want the cooler down streem of the filter... hot oil filters quicker better and smoother then cold oil. i dont think i can get that on a sandwich plate adapter..

Good to hear your back up and running Adam.
While on the topic of oil temps, what extra cooler kits are out there for extreme winter conditions? I want to go with something that won't make my oil too cold when it is -30 out-especially cold starts that might take longer for the oil to warm up.

It does cost more, but if your temps are up some it will hold you over. I would see what your oil temps are doing, if they are high then run syn until you get a oil cooler on there. I'm really happy with the setup super diesel help me setup

The two out there that I know of (killerbee and super diesel) use a Tstat and they stay closed (so normal stock system). I'm running mine up here in Minot ND

Thanks.
I would like to see the SD set-up. Wouldn't buy an O-ring from that Killerbee clown.
I went to SD's website and it looks like it's just one big site full of ad's and nothing that shows his products. Gonna have to do a search on here I guess and see what I can find.

I'm running SD kit now. You have to mount your own cooler but it is very simple fab skills. It is night and day from stock. Still need to watch that temp gage but so much better
