How does it sound?
Adam, from what I have found.
Sustained higher RPM but low egt is harder on the oil than lower rpm(2200 and below) and higher EGT. I see you have gears and cruise at 2400rpm+. I wouldnt be surprised if you see 250*+ oil temps with a moderate load on the truck. I saw 274* in my LB7 towing 10,000 up a 6* grade for 8 miles at 55mph in 4th gear.
Oil temp gauges really opened my eyes in these trucks with temps. I value a oil temp gauge more than EGT. We only realize our trucks get hot when the engine fan comes on, well, what are the oil temps to drive the coolant temps up? You dont know untill you put a gauge in the truck, and I can promise you, your oil temps will always be higher than coolant temps while towing.
I know with my oil cooler, with oil temps at 165*-180*, at 1800rpm im at 62psi. GM spec is 42psi @ 1800, so im well above that.
Good to hear your back up and running Adam.
While on the topic of oil temps, what extra cooler kits are out there for extreme winter conditions? I want to go with something that won't make my oil too cold when it is -30 out-especially cold starts that might take longer for the oil to warm up.
The two out there that I know of (killerbee and super diesel) use a Tstat and they stay closed (so normal stock system). I'm running mine up here in Minot ND
Thanks.
I would like to see the SD set-up. Wouldn't buy an O-ring from that Killerbee clown.
I went to SD's website and it looks like it's just one big site full of ad's and nothing that shows his products. Gonna have to do a search on here I guess and see what I can find.
