When you say dummy gauge do you mean the stock gauge in the dash? I'd get your thermostat checked. I live in country that get down to -10 on occasion and I have never had any trouble getting my truck warm, and I don't use a blanket.

we found that I'm about 15mins away. So he bought a VIN license and I let him use my V2. I made him some tunes (can't help but want to help a disabled vet!!) for him to get his feet wet in EFI Live, and told him that he can either enjoy them or buy emailed tunes from a vendor, and I'll be happy to put them in the truck for him.
