My SC stage 4 kit and 1056 converter arrived at my house today, thanks Mike L. I am going to install it May 3. Anyone have any advice for me on removing building or installing the trans. I have an ATSG manuel and I have a 2 post 10,000 lbs lift at my toy shop. I can not wait to turn my PPE to the 350 tune. Thanks for any help.

I have his cell number and I will just put him on speaker phone for a couple of hours. Hope he does not mind. I would like to just bring my truck to him and have him build the trans but I like to do my own work even if it is with a little help and I do not have the money to have him pull the trans and build it.

What did you use to compress C3?

Sean has built a few of these. He's in Law school right now, but might be a good source of info. If you take your time and follow all the info, it's not that bad. I've had some hands on and it's simple "pay attention".
The lift you mentioned is your friend;). Unless you have had a tranny out of a Dmax, it will take some time. Nothing difficult, but challenging. My favorite part are the torque converter bolts.

When you see it all apart, you might think, Holly S#$%. My truck is so screwed.

It is amazing when you build it and it actually works after install.

Kinda rewarding.... have fun and good luck. Mike L is the man... if things get tough

What is up the the torqu converter bolt. How do you get to them.

Like a normal tranny pull the strater off the truck and spin the flex plate. To compress my c2 clucth pack and c3 i had 2 guys 1 on one side the other on the other both put all there body weight to compress it for me to put the snap ring in.

It is cool then I have a HUGE press. How big of snap wring pliers did you need. Is there any special tools I should get before I start.

No speical tools are need just screw driver snap ring plyers ( Nothing speical ) And some sockets is all. i may have forgot one or two things.

On side note when i assembled everything back together i usally spary everything with break cleaner to make sure that everything is clean. Dont put your torque converter on dry. Its ok if u do but i perfer to put fluid in it.

Make sure you follow the tightening sequence for the bolts on the valve body. Have a good inch pound tq wrench on hand.

Also have a few "long" 3/8 inch extensions. 15mm sockets come in handy.

Air and a 3/8" impact are nice for R&R

The TQ conv bolts can be tricky on install. If you drop one in the bell housing, it's gonna be tough to get it out, without pulling the trans back off.

I have put some tape on the socket to hold the bolt tight while installing.

There are a lot of other people here that may have some other suggestions on how to do it.

I'm no expert. That said, only put in a couple of the bell housing bolts until you get the converter bolts all in. Obvious reasons.

Once you are finished, Install your big tune and go directly to the track to insure proper break-in..................

Cool thanks for the info please keep it coming. I a 1/4 inch pounds, a 3/8 foot pounds, and a 1/2 foot pounds snap on tq wrenches. I have had the same problem with TQ converter bolts before. What I do is take thread pipe tape and wrap the head of the bold and stick it in the socket and it holds very good.

tc bolts put a rag under neather each on in case ti fall.. if it gets away there is a chance of it dropping down between the flex plate and backing plate of the engine and locking everything up... i did it.. had to pull the tc attached to the engine.. :banghead: not the way i want to seperate the tranny and engine when i pulled the engine

installing tc bolts... put all 6 in looslly then tighten them..

crank bolt is a 36mm 12 point on the harmonic balancer.

as for making the bolts stick to the sockets i used form-a-gasket

Worked good for you! You forgot your favorite part though, the transgo springs, those are a joy. We had those things shooting all over the shop. Lower starter bolt is fun. Also just a suggestion, take the TC bolts and run them in and out of your new converter a few times. For some reason I always seem to have one bolt that doesn't want to thread properly, and I have to pull the trans back out to clean the converter threads up. Make sure you use more red loctite. Its a shame you don't have an LBZ...so much easier. The best thing you can have while building an allison is Mike L's number on speed dial.

Even though this should be a no brainer make sure you get the gaskets on the bell housing and pump cover plate on in the right order. I never took the plate off and left the old gasket on the bottom and flipped the new one over and installed it on the wrong side.:screwy: Well pulling the tranny out twice in the same weekend suks azzzzz.
