Some guy my buddy works with bought several packs and chain smoked them till he threw up. Cured that addiction! The other day my wife was at work (RN at a hospital), she goes into a patients room and there he is puffing away on the old e-cig!

So a hole can rot in your mouth and you can get jaw and cheek cancer !!!

Never smoked, never dipped, could never get the reasons for putting over 300 bad chemicals and carcinogens in your body.

My Aunt and Uncle and my Mother smoked for 45+ years, all three are in sad shape, not one of them can breathe, my Uncle is so bad he can barely walk to the bathroom without needing a nap.

Why people destroy themselves smoking or chancing jaw/cheek/gum cancer dipping is beyond me.

I know we supposedly live in a free country, but I was glad when they banned smokers from bars and restaurants !!!!

JMHO

x2. And now CVS is going to stop selling them, and theres a bill thats getting passed around to ban smoking on college campus's. Step in the right direction at least...maybe in 10 years the statistic of 500,000 people dying from it a year will go down. :thumb: :woott:

It is ironic how Drug Stores promote wellness, sell drugs to help quit smoking ,but yet have a whole wall of cigs for sale at the check out ! :D

So they should stop selling them in my opinion. Of course I don't smoke anymore so my thoughts are different now when I did smoke I was tired of being treated like a leper! I recall being on a patio OUTSIDE and told I couldn't smoke here? I was like WTF !!!!!

You cannot smoke on hospital grounds now. Smoking has definitely become a dirty word so to speak. I do recall when smoking was cool tho! :D

It ... Smoking has definitely become a dirty word so to speak. I do recall when smoking was cool tho! :D

How far back are you dating yourself here....?

James Dean thought smoking was cool....;)

:roflmao:

Naw, I remember in Jr high and high school when smoking provided a perception of being older or more mature ie "cool" and peer pressure/perception is always a motivation factor at that age.

However, there was a time society as a whole thought smoking was pretty alright, for the time I'm referring to smoking was a sign of prestige, it was a practically sought after past time. Moms used to breast feed while smoking, I remember my elders smoking at the dinner table.

As we evolve, learn and expand our knowledge, we learn how our predecessors understanding was flawed. It will take several decades before the fall out of tobacco abuse/use to fully take effect, now with the "electronic cigarettes" in full swing of acceptance and becoming rampantly accepted as the new "cool" I only see another epidemic occurring. These new electronic cigs ore 10x the evil as a standard tobacco filled smoke, IMHO, and I believe they will bring "nicotine" addiction and abuse to an all new level, and btw people, those "vapors" aren't harmless, hate to tell ya....

To anyone reading this......

I hate cigarettes, and I'm glad I quit when I did, if I can do it so can you, don't allow your mind to be fooled by your body, you don't need nicotine!!!!! In any form!!!! You can quit and never pick up a smoke again, it is and always will be

your choice

Choose wisely:)

x2. I dont smoke, never have never will, I hate it...but I can totally see the e-cigs being a severe slippery slope that is not the answer to the problem IMO. All it does is perpetuate the habit/addiction because now you can "smoke" everywhere, instead of being forced to fight your addiction when in bars/restaurants. The point when you want to "quit" is to quit altogether so your body/brain doesnt NEED the addiction/relaxer to begin with in the first place...not just find another source that is slightly slightly less "bad". I would think it would be super easy to over-abuse the e-cigs.

Especially since they are easy for kids to get...just order online. I think new york is in the process of banning people from using them anywhere "regular" smoking is permitted....

rant off.

our communist government (literally) in NYC just banned e-cigs. I really don't have a problem with them but I do hate the smell/litter that cigarettes make. Good luck

I wasn't old enough to smoke then but not that far off. The whole smoking don't smoke battle and treating those that do like a criminal is bull anyway, and I don't smoke anymore. I thought it was BS when I did. IMO It's YOUR choice and I hate ANYONE forcing me to do something or dictating to me especially the GOVERNMENT! IMO they are HUGE hypocrites! Look at the tax dollars they raise on on cigs! It is $3.40 cents per pack!

Here's something they did not to long ago here in CT. With the taxes rising per pack on cigs the roll your own stores became popular mind you in a VERY depressed economy! The premise of the business is you came in and bought your supplies ,lose tobacco, filters and papers and then rented the machine.

You had individuals renting store fronts buying $60,000 dollar machines ,most stores had more then one, in cases getting second mortgages on their homes to afford hired the unemployed and guess what?

Our government said NO way we are going to charge you the same tax as we do the major tobacco companies . So this ruined their business I'm sure some lost their homes !

Now I have heard they want to charge E-Cigs the same!

This is for the smokers ,where to find cheap cigs! http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/cigarette.pdf :D

I know it's a hard thing to stop but I don't think any kind of a crutch is a very good idea. I find it is more difficult for women to quit than it is for men. Cold Turkey is the way to go and you just have to decide you are going to do it. DON'T EVER GET CAUGHT IN THE THOUGHT I HAVE THIS LICKED AND TRY ONE JUST FOR KICKS. You'll be right back on them. I spent 7+ years on submarines and I read a while back that submarines are now smoke free. We we use to head out on patrol usually 60-70 days, I'd buy 12 cartoons of Lucky Strikes to see me through. Most of the time I might have a cartoon left over. Mind you sea stores were cheap, only $1 a cartoon.:D On watch, (6 on 12 off) I'd average a cup of coffee and a smoke about every half hour. You would not have believed the crud that came out of those big environment filters on that submarine, YUCK!!

Most of you don't remember flying commercial when they would include a 5 pack of cigarettes on your dinner tray, or being able to smoke anywhere on the plane.

I think everyone who smokes and wants to quit should visit some lung cancer patients, see how their chest is literally pointed out due to the enlargement of their heart, and I especially love to watch them take a puff off of a butt with one hand and then suck on a tube of oxygen with the other.

At today's prices, if you only smoke one pack a day of the cheap ones say the $5 a pack that's $150 a month or $1800 a year. Quiting pays and you might actually live a few years longer and do more than set in a chair with a butt in one hand and an oxygen tube in the other. :thumb:

About to get out of the Army and I have been smoking for 10 years now. I had a dream Sunday night that I was already out and sitting back home in Texas flat broke smoking a cigarette. I woke up and thought well that is really stupid so I quit. 72 hours now. First couple days sucked but I'm tired of waisting my money on cigarettes so Im done for good while Im still young.

I have to echo a lot of the sentiments made on this subject from those that don't smoke. I'm a Smoker, Back in the days like what has been said, It was the "cool thing" as a kid, there were no anti this anti that, no one was pushing the fact that this shit is bad. Snuff, chew, pipe, all of it. It seems are society has woken up and I hit the pause button a little to late...

So hear I sit with a smoke and a cup of Joe' typing this out after being diagnosed with Squamous Cell cancer. GMC 2002 is right, this shit will kill you ultimately, No doubts about it. BTW the type of Cancer I have can be linked to smoking, chemical fumes absorbed or inhaled.

I thought about the E-Cig's , again there are certain chemicals within the product that are unknown, Why risk it? I go in for exploratory Biopsies of my head neck and mouth to find the cell that is producing the cancer that attacked my lymph node in my neck. Tests proved the thyroid did not cause it, and the PET Scan showed its only isolated to that node. Long story short, They don't find the route cause, does broad spectrum mean anything to those that understand Radiation? bad karma....

This will be the last time I smoke, sad it came down to this to make my mind up. But facts are facts now guys and gals, the shit will ultimately come and get you one way or the other.

Sorry for the long drawn out post, after reading all of this, I figured a little of my take on it couldn't hurt. I got myself into a sport I enjoy once again, building go fast things and running down the track, this shit may ultimately keep me from doing that now.

Point is if you enjoy all the things in life, do yourself a favor and quit for you and your loved ones.

Guess I need to get moving now, truck is in pieces, and the clock is ticking ......

I grew up with a dad that smoked. After watching him cough and hack to the point of not being able to breathe when he'd get a cold I decided I never wanted to be like that. Plus like it's already been said, that s##t is expensive. I have always had nice things since I graduated high school. But I also worked my ass off while in college and now to pay for everything I own. Still I would always get the old "must be nice to have parents with money" from acquaintances and distant friends. Most of which dip, smoke, drink regularly or any combination of the 3. My response to them has always been

"yes it was nice, but I work for my things just like everyone else. Only difference is instead of drinking, smoking, partying, and pissing away $400+ a month I bought myself a nice truck and 4wheeler." people are usually speechless after that.
