January 2025 in Southeasten Ohio is officially Jeep Rated..

After watching the neighbor kids try and beat a hole through the ice on the pond, figured time to see if it would hold the old Jeep.

Hasn't been above freezing this year, until today. Good 8" to 10" thick. Haven't seen that in a few years.

Never heard of one of those making out in the wild. I would assume it would have everything maintenance and repair wise done to it while in GMs hands. Even if put through a tough life it would be cared for. No telling how the subsequent owners cared for it

Its life started in Warren, MI with no official owner until 14000 miles. So his story rings true.

Usually, and I say that with a grain of salt knowing my self that some do make it out there, They don't get re-sold to the public due to liability and service ability issues.

Now that I say that, It could have been part of a special test fleet or something like that. Post it in the Vin thread and see what comes back in the system on that unit.

Already did the build sheet. These two RPOs stand out:

OAR IDENTIFICATION PRE-PRODUCTION ('BUCKET' BATCH BUILD PROCESS)
WD0 IDENTIFICATION START OF PLATFORM CONTAINMENT VEHICLES

Never seen those two codes on a build sheet before.

The other interesting thing is the ownership on carfax. The current owner is the first named owner, yet that didn't happen until 2017 and 14000 miles. Truck registered as commercial, not personal, initially in Warren , Mi.....which iirc is where GM testing is located. Then it spent time in Wisconsin, where this man bought it.

Some Vehicles get the wheels driven off them while others are used for Photos' or Product testing.

In that case, it may be good as it likely hasn't seen the winter road up there.

Sounds like a test vehicle to me.

Back in the early 90s, prior to carfax, I played with a couple cars originally titled to "GM Proving Grounds".

They were both passed onto GM dealers, sold as uses, with we'll under 500 miles. Both cars had weird powertrain options in the build sheets under the rear seat. I recall the 91 GTA ordered with Rear Disk Delete, on the big 8" rear-end setup. Every other GTA sported 4wheel disks back then.

So I think some engineering team just checks a box to run a test bed from production line, and GM tosses that vehicle in corporate fleet inventory until they are done playing. Then it hits auctions like all the executives' daily drivers..

Kept looking, found this one:

View attachment 128804

Been talking to the private seller. Turns out this truck may have been a GM test mule/preproduction truck for the 2.8 Duramax, and the RPO codes back that premise. I find that interesting.
What is significant about this truck? Is it because it has the longer bed with the crew cab?

I found its history interesting. Just thought Id share it.
I guess my question was more in response to Jason's reaction about none of those making it out into the wild. I guess he was just referring to it being a pre-production vehicle.
