I haven't been hunting since I moved out 6 years ago. And I haven't been to the range in a year since we bought our house and moved 60 miles away from the really nice range I was a member of. I still pull out my S&W and do some dry firing drills. Would like to get into AKs and more target shooting, but just haven't been motivated enough. I don't see me getting back into hunting though. Its hard to say but t think I got burned out of it. I use to get at least 4 deer a year with a rife and more when I could get out for mussel loader. We did our own butchering and with 3 of us getting 4 or more deer a year it was a lot of work. Plus scouting and all the bird hunting we did. I never did get into bow hunting. I tried to get into it as a kid, but lost interest. Beside guns are funner. I like blowing the brains out of a deer at 500 yds.

What setup did you get?

Best advice is practice, practice, and more practice...you want to be totally confident in your equipment when the time comes to loose an arrow on a deer.

I went to a archery shop today to get my used but new to me Bow sized to me. The draw length was to long for me. The Bow is a high country and looks to be like a max force. The archery shop said it was a older Bow and would be hard to find the correct size cams to shorten the draw length. So after talking to him for awhile and discussing my options. With the approval of my wife (Thanks Dear  ) I now have a new 2009 Martin Bow Saber :happydance:

finally got some gun time in :D.
went to grandparents ranch this weekend...got 6 hogs, 1 opossum, and about a dozen hairs. :jiggy:

btw, a .22 mag will drop a 200+ lb pig with 1 shot anywhere to the head within 40 yds at least. i always use a .223 or .44 Mag, but my buddy uses his .22 mag on everything.

Went shooting this past weekend. I was dailing in my .300 short mag. My buddy was hitting balloons at 2000yds with a supressed .308. It was a cool sight for sure.

I can't, for the life of me, understand how guys shoot that dang far... Even with the best scopes, the target wouldn't be more than a spec in the lense. Only thing I can figure is the target has to be in the center of something large (such as a sheet of plywood or something) and they simply aim at the center of the big thing as best as possible and hope they hit it? Even at that, a sheet of plywood over a mile away would look miniscule I'd imagine. Absolutely AMAZED at the abilities of some marksmen. Just blows my mind.

at that distance, windage and elevation play a big role. the shooter would have to adjust the scope to even see the target and have a chance at hitting it, or they would have to aim for something higher and to the left/right of the target and hope they hit it.

whats the rate of the bullet drop for a .308 at 2000 yards?

?? Most charts show a 308 dropping around 4' at 500 yards and the round almost doubles that at 600.

Been too long since I took my 1911 out. Not sure I could hit the broad side of a barn while standing in the shadow at noon right now. Gonna have to go out before it gets too cold and give the bowling pins hell.
