Yet ended up with no warrantee because you were curious, and now have two non running motors

Lol
If I had just slapped it in and complained about the leak or whatever else might have occurred you'd be singing a different tune I'm sure, telling me I shoulda checked it out first

Sometime with you guys I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't too
:baby:

And how is taking a few hard parts off going to make a running engine a non running engine Russ?

Are you saying cuz I took it apart I won't be able to put it back together properly?
That's pretty shitty if ya are

And again, if I hadn't taken the time and energy to completely check this thing out I wouldn't have found the damage upper pan, and because I did I'm possibly getting a full refund...

Me too!
Thanks man
Coco, fix what you have apart now and button it back up!!! Your going to end up with a pile of parts. It's a Dmax it will be fine.
:roflmao:
This whole situation is getting fixed!

Not sure how good of a deal that was

My local dealer sold me a Goodwrench long block for $7300, and it came with injectors, water pump, oil cooler, etc. All covered by GM's 3 year/100,000 mile warranty.

As for your bearing question, that is what most would consider normal light wear on a rod bearing. Nothing at all to be alarmed about, it would run just fine like that. But the majority of builders will tell you not to reinstall it. Check the crank & rods, replace the bearings. Play it safe.
It wasn't a good deal....

That longblock you got seems like a killer deal!

Good to know about the bearings, I'll keep that in mind as I tear into "my" engine

I know what you have, its the disorder where you are paranoid and fear the worst and insist that everything must be perfect? You drink beer? drink several and put the engine together and bolt it in your truck!!! All will be good my friend:thumb:

Well, I wasn't planning on all this. This all sorta snowballed once I got it in the garage and off the pallet. The first thing I noticed was the "smell"
Lol
There had been rodents nesting in the valley buried by the CP3. I had always planned to delete he EGR so that was the first order if business and I saw the amount of buildup and became fairly concerned. I have done several deletes for local guys and my own and this was hands down the worst I'd ever seen. So I took the intake off down to the heads just to see.

Getting back to the rodents nest...I removed the CP3 to clean it and the "remnants" around it, I didn't want to smell it every time the engine got warm.

The deeper I got the more concerned I became and the whole time I'm calling this guy who sold it to me and I felt I was getting the run around.

So deeper I go into the block.
The heads came off and looked good, the cylinders look fine after a deep cleaning and I'm starting to feel like what you just said, man I shoulda just tore my block down and re-built it.

Take into account here I was getting a complete engine, literally everything but the alternator and A/C and I paid a bit more cuz I was keeping my core engine
But this little gem cost me $6950!!!

Pretty much enough for pistons, rods and some if not all the machining I would need, that left me with oil cooler, oil pump, water pump, bearings, cam, crank inspection, full gasket kit etc to find finances for to purchase to complete my build...the cheapest parts list I could muster was about $8000 without machining costs, so this whole drop in idea seemed like the way to go

It's a long, dumb and boring story, with a potentially happy ending.
I just got off the phone with the seller. He said that due to the damage on the upper and lower pan he can issue me a FULL REFUND! Or (and he'll find out Monday) he might be able to issue me a refund for most of the money and I can keep all this shit for cores!

Talk is cheap though, we'll just see what the end result is in time. If this guy does honor a refund I will be extremely relieved and will be pursuing building my engine post haste
;)

You paid 7 k for this engine? Get your money back now even if you have to threaten to take this guy to court. You could have had your old engine running by now for not a lot more money. That about what I have into ally parts with a set of complete ported heads: carillos, fingers, colt cam, main studs, and gaskets,

X2!!! This is a used motor! If you wanted a motor that was in perfect condition you should have just built the one you had! :thumb:

Even know it has low miles on it, the condition can very great depending on the maintenance by the previous owner/owner's.

Easy buddy.., your jumping the gun here!! A leak or visible external damage is a different story. Just stating a fact that because you tore into it, you voided any warranty that 99% of yards will give you. How can they be assured that you have the ability to properly "build" the motor back to factory spec and cover them self. If the motor was installed and had issues that could be proven, then you would have a warrantee issue. I've had to deal with a few that were "Grade A" motors, trust me.

Coco this is the best advice that has been posted in this thread. Get about 6 beers down and that motor will be done in no time.

7k holy shit coco....
I know...
:eek:hgeez:
Yea, my buddy had GM drop one in with a 100,000 mile warranty for 9,500 and that included the labor...
I read this and ran down to my local dealership, now I had called them before but I talked to the main parts guy I've been dealing with for about 7years now and he quoted me $6490:eek:

I'm working on getting my money back, I'm gonna have to wait for gaskets and and the two rod bolts I removed and then put it back together.

It started out as a $5400 engine, then with delivery charges and a core fee it came to $7k.

$7000 seemed like a good deal for a 64,000 mile engine that came with injectors, CP3, heads...a fully dressed and ready to go engine and I got to keep my core. The chevy dealer wants $3500 for a core fee!!!
But really the whole time I thought it would've been better to buy parts for my engine.

Part of this was me trying to appease the wife, giving up some of what I wanted for a better cause (we are trying to buy a bigger house)

The house we were looking at we got inspected, put down a large earnest money deposit on it and then had an appraisal done and it appraised 96k under the sellers asking price (its in an eclectic neighborhood, not conforming) and the sellers won't budge more than $20k on their asking price, so yeah, we walked on that

But we "need" our truck for the move...gotta move the trailer, go to the dump...get the truck to the new house!!!
Lol, it really needed to be driving and the used engine seemed like the best alternative in that moment.

So then just put some good pistons (finger or Mahle) with your LBZ rods in the engine that you had in your rig and do some other things like head studs and put it back together and run it with the setup you had (turbo and injectors) keep it at a tame 600 hp and leave it alone.

hay kinda off topic here guys but I've got a lbz block that needs worked on a an was wondering what machine shops you guys go to in or around eastern washington or around there?? i cracked a piston an it scored th cylinder wall a bit and we figured we would just git them to bore them out to 20overs an go bak in with mahle pistons
