Ill agree with Brantley Gilbert. He's my gfs favorite and I do like his stuff. I liked a lot of Eric churches songs from his first album. Not so much the new ones.

I don't guess I've ever really listened for the bass guitar in a song before that I can remember but I picked it up today listening to Pink Floyd - The Wall. Has a strong bass line in that song! Am I right?

Mainstream is just that... Corporate influenced garbage music, I stick to independent bands

It is a prominant tone yes. It is a simple one but not hidden. Too many bands feel the need to hide the bass. RHCP plays a lot of what they call "bass forward" songs where the bass is louder in the monitor and the bass player live is usually not tucked into the back corner.

Heres a few good ones off the top of my head that ive been playing a lot of lately. The Blues travelers songs are all classic blues lines and tone. RHCP is more along the lines of Funk with a funk/punk tone which is more bright than the deeper tones of blues. Flea does a lot of slap bass, which is very fun to play once you get onto it.

this one is a slower slap version, for those who dont know Flea, hes the guy in the wierd suit throwing chairs at the wall.

heres a tone a lot of people don't recognize as the bass. Its call "tapping" you simply hit the string where you want the note. Its not simple at all. think of it as playing the piano on the fretboard in a way.

There is nothing worse than new "country"/pop music. Well, I mean beside hip-hop. Puke on both of 'em.

Change the beat of just about any new country song and it would sound like a DMB song. I respect musical talent in any genre, however, there are musicians playing in studios, and touring alike, that don't even like the genre they play. Greed rules a many conscience.

I like tacos.

Almost every single Rush song has jammin bass (Geddy Lee, oh ya). Been listening to a lot of Yes as well lately. Nice bass riff in their music as well.

We had a similar thread going on CompD.

98% of the music out of Nashville sucks. Speaking of Eric Church... I don't think he could find words for half of his songs on the "Chief" album. He was just making sounds... "bow, bow, bowbow".

If you want real music, check out the Texas country music scene.

That's what I'm talking about, Texas country. Randy Rogers, Aaron Watson, Jason jb an the moonshine band, , josh Abbott. An for the best of all turnpike troubadours.- check them out for sure. Randy Rogers is my all time fav, but the troubadours run a close second.

Stone sours new "dual song" is great I think. I like the 2nd half best.

Evans blue, so cold is a other new good one

And a sad sad day happened last week. On my birthday our radio station that played primarily 80-90s hits with some 60s,70s and current hits mixed in switched to another top 40 station.

The original station was just named Charlie. Had no DJ, no morning show just basically an iPod on shuffle. No commercials until 11am (so people who didn't want to listen to morning shows could listen to music) and no repeat from 9-5. No matter where you went it was the station everyone liked or could tolerate. Now its basically playing washed up top 40 hits and some 90s pop hits and they have counseling sessions too.

I actually know Robbie Merrill, the bassist for Godsmack pretty well (assistant coached my high school hockey team). Awesome guy and I always thought he was very talented, even before I ever met him. I am NOT very musically inclined though, but I like to believe I have a decent ear for it.

Recently I've gotten back into playing bass again for a hobby that actually relieves stress versus create it. .

This made me laugh :roflmao:. Messing around with these trucks would NOT fit in this category!!

99% of the music I listen to is country, and can agree that most radio stations suck. There are a couple of brantley gilbert, eric church, and that new song that colt ford is featured on that they will play, but I just plug in my ipod or a cd and listen to that. I mostly just listen to hank jr., DAC, and pretty much all the texas stuff with some of the oklahoma boys mixed in. Eli young bad I could give two shits about for the most part. Sound just like rascal flats now. Want some good music you'll have to hit the small bars. Probably the best concerts I've been too were ragweed and stoney. Stoney larue knows how to make some music.

cant stand todays country. its not even country IMOP. its gotta be early 90s and older country for me.

This is me exactly! I grew up playing my parents' 8-tracks of Conway, Milsap, Alabama, Haggard, Waylon, etc. While I was working up around Omaha the past few months, I discovered a station that plays oldies and non of the pop country shit. 93.3 the Wolf. I downloaded the iHeart radio app just so I could bring that station back home with me.
