Is a scIII enough?

What could be so different about a tune that still has stock turbo and stock injectors that would put it out of reach of a level 3?
Or should I say an out of the box level 3.

At 103mph in the 1/4, doesn't seem any stronger than the other 500hp tunes floating around, actually slightly less.

My truck has run 12.66 at almost 106 in a crew cab........Dipper inspected the trans at 90K and found nothing wrong.

It's the same tune that has run alot of 12.4s at 106-107 and put down over 530hp on a dyno jet that only loaded it enough to get 24 PSI of boost. SunCoast only recommends the Stage III to 500hp, so if you have a tune proven to over 530hp why would you want to only do a Stage III?

I have run mine for over 90K, at or above 500 RWHP and well over 700 on spray, still runs like new.

Its the builder and the tuning.............;)

I could be wrong but i thought the SC kits were rated at maximum GVW

So to say you could run 500rwhp and pull a trailer at max GVW before it would slip

Just looking out for the fellow members here just like you do........:D

If we can all run a SCIII why did SC even invent the IV and V?

I bought a kit when they were out long enough that the bugs were worked out back in 2004, but that was the only thing that Suncoast was offering.

I got mine from Mike L, installed it myself with his support and over three years later lots of stuff changed, like a SC-IV kit and a drop in SC-V.

I don't know what the exact differences are, I leave that to the experts, like Mike and Dipper.

Dipper will be installing a SC-IV kit/1054 in my LBZ in the next few weeks.

;)

So most everybody is saying a 500hp SCIII is enough trans on a 550hp tune? Hmmm

What about when he adds a turbo or other go fast goodies?

The he can either choose to build it first or redo it later.....what 550hp tune?

Just looking out for the fellow members here just like you do........:D

Stop putting words in peoples mouth. He told me on the phone he is going to be a tune only truck for years....so yea, a level 3 would be fine.

If you ran a [email protected], it didn't slip. You will gain some by doing the trans, but thinking you will gain 3-4mph and 4-5 tenths when you didn't limp to begin with is.....well, let's just say the Easter bunny has already come to town.....time to start unbolting a lot of shit.

Would it benefit at all to run the Transgo jr shift kit along with a suncoast stage 4 tranny kit? Does the Suncoast tranny kit come with the same valve springs as the Transgo? Does it require drilling the same ports too? Thanks again.:)

BIG DIPPER was running those times almost 6 years ago and had less than a SC 3. But then that's just him.

Now I've seen you on both sides of this arguement Mike, how is anyone supposed to decide?

Look at Kat's quote on the first page.

Yeah like remove your tailgate, spare tire and extra seats, takes about 10 minutes and gets Chris's truck down to ~6600 lbs.

i think there is a big difference in what it will take/hold and what they would recomend running through it .

I was not recomending anything with that statement. George was doing a lot of experimenting back then because there were no kits. He had Transgo, SC, and ATS parts plus some of his own ideas. I met George in '03 and we have been helping each other ever since.
Correct me if I'm wrong George.

Im getting ready to get my trans built and i was going to go with a stage III with a 1056 but a couple of people have said a stage III isnt enough. I do some sled pulling around 20 hooks a year, drag race every once in a while, and tow a 5-8k load a couple times a week.

Here's the problem. If that's the use the truck actually gets in a year, then a SCIII should be fine. What happens though, is we get used to the power and want more.
