I know exactly nothing about forklifts other than we use one to get stuff off trucks a couple times a week, and always wear your seatbelt.

The whole buy American is great in theory right up until the US doesn't offer a product that is on par with other places in the world. Machine tools being an example. Your cute little nibblers are fine and dandy, but when you start talking serious manufacturing equipment (milling, turning, etc) we Americans have nothing to offer. Haas? Yeah okay. They have what I believe is still the largest Mori Seiki HMC cell in the US if not the world.

I'm sure this crosses over to other industries and products as well. I'll buy my token american vehicles and stuff when I can. But when it comes to putting food on the table and employing people in a modern machine shop, I'll take the best I can get.

Exactly

The Neens I'm not going to dictate to you what you should and shouldn't buy,buy with your own conscience if you choose NOT to support this country in durable goods that can be purchased from manufacturing based in this country that is your option. Obviously many items cannot due to our elected officials pushing this companies elsewhere.

But there is two obvious examples ,one I gave where my friend chose to purchase a car from South Korea because he is miss informed the other Pat purchasing a forklift based on maintenance cost do to poor work performed and lack of history on used equipment purchased when certainly he could have done better. Much better!

Things are NOT going to get better with the attitude I see. Not just here but everywhere. I have no idea what you do for a living but what I do ,small Business in manufacturing, is the BACK BONE of this country! When I can buy American I do. I just bought a pair of Modern Nibblers when I could have bought Bosch , Makita or Milwaukee. I do my research!

More later busy trying to keep my head above water in manufacturing.

Pat We have a pair of 08's 5,000lbers. In comparison to the 4 90's Komatsu the Toyota have had wire fatigue problems in several locations due to engine/engine mount vibrations.(In normal operation the damn things run so lean and clean at idle they shake quite a bit) The repair harness parts are over the top $$$. We run em on LPG and run em 12 hr days 5 days a week. They are computer controlled and safety interlocked, get used to that.;)
how many hours on em?
out of warranty, parts prices will get ya. which is how they want it. :)
the older ones are better if you have to fix them yourself. not so many expensive modules and digital displays to replace.

I drive trucks for a living Sir, Teamsters Local 399, 19 years...So don't preach your bullshit to me :thumb:

I always buy "American" when I can, always...I own 3 Chevys, 1 GMC and a car trailer built in Fontana...You happy now?

Why are you so edgy on this topic? I'm simply stating my opinion where I feel American products are not Inferior or competitive in cost to foreign competition and when and if the opportunity presents it self to purchase goods made in America they should be purchased. That isn't BULLSHIT!

Your taking a stand as if I ,you know what never mind I can tell there is no sense in trying to get my point across to you as your taking it personal for some odd reason.

But thanks for buying American made our future depends on it, every little bit helps.

Why do you own an Audi if you feel this strongly? Bet the wife drives it. My wife drives a Lexus cause she wants one. Tried to get her into a Caddy and she wouldn't hear of it. I'll buy her anything to keep her off my back.:thumb::D

I shouldn't respond in this thread anymore as someone has a hair across their ass for me for some odd reason!

But since I'm pro American I should explain as to why. It was like this the dealer that I was dealing with sells Saab and Audi and VW brands. I bought a Saab there and the lease was up. The residual was high and my wife did plenty of damage to the Saab. Even on the day we went to the dealer to negotiate a deal she hit a car (bump) on the front bumper resulting in a scratch and chipped paint! I shit you not! There was additional damage to the vehicle and then there was the mileage issue.

I didn't want another Saab thankfully I didn't since they have since ,well you know. There was no private sale to make whole nor was a walk away wasn't possible do to out of pocket expenses. So here I was ,STUCK.

Went to other dealers ,was no help. So IF I was to purchase another Saab a VW or a Audi from this dealer things were forgiven! So there you have it

But why did you buy the Saab to begin with? :D

Sorry, just playing advocate. ;)

I try to buy American when I can but it can be tough. TV? Computer? Clothes? And I understand the notion that "every bit helps" but IDK how much when the bottom line price dictates the purchase of things for most Americans regardless of quality, value, manuf location, etc. So Asia kills us on prices because we don't tax imports enough!

My "cute little nibblers" was just a example that there are options. There are many items I've purchased just that came to mind as I just bought another set recently.

I'm not looking to offend anyone as far as I'm concerned I haven't. It's obvious many items aren't available that are needed or cannot be had here. IMO it's sad as we have the technology and resources not for everything but a lot more which would help.

What can I say other than I see a VERY serious decline in this economy and IMO the only thing that is going to change it is US. How, is how and who you vote for and where you spend your money. There is no magic bullet

IMO things are troubling when American Flags are made in China as are tribute bracelets for 911. Just as much as when I see Veteran Plates on Hyundai's! Something is wrong

The reason I chose Toyota wasn't JUST because it will pick a quarter up off the floor:

The suspension is extremely smooth, as are the controls. We lift heavy, yet extremely delicate parts such as tooling, satellite bodies, injection molding dies. Extremely smooth.

It has the best forward visibility of all the forklifts I've seen. I don't need a spotter to load to load a machine now. Best "all around" visibility as well, but forward is critical when doing delicate work.

It will run without you sitting in the seat. HOWEVER, none of the controls will operate.

None of the safety stuff is intrusive. It has computerized "anti-tip" called SAS.

The battery is large, the tank swap is simple with no tools, and the tires are soft. Seems to work well on carpeted flooring so far.

My knees don't bang shit climbing on in a hurry. Seat is comfy and solid.

Very quiet, no fumes, smell, or smoke. Almost like an electric, except smoother controls.

----------------------------

I drive a Dmax because it was the best-in-class. It was between the Ford and GM and after testing, I went GM.

We got a Z06 back in the day, because it was best-in-class. Ditto for CTS-V.

If Toyota/Honda/Kia/BMW/Ferrari/Hyundai made something that fit my needs better, I'd run one.

I drive American because they are the BEST. Not because of the Made in Canada sticker in the door jamb.

If you know how to do it any fork lift can pick a DIME off the floor!

I have all the same features on my Cat as do most fork lifts mine you can operate the controls off the seat. I even had a special mask built for a low ceiling inference but yet it's still a triple. If you buy the right tires (yard) they all ride somewhat comfortable for a solid mount. All new fork-lifts must adhere to emission workplace standards.

Just saying I care, but don't care ,my point isn't getting through as intended . This isn't a judgment of character, but what is ,well you figure it out! :)

Adding on edit,

I forgot to add (have you been around fork lifts for very long ,how old was that Clark?) most if not ALL LP tanks can be swapped tool-less and my forklift has a tilt steering column. ? ?

I do not have a hair across my as over you. I think you should buy what you want and buy American as much as possible. I am just giving you a hard time because you say one thing and do another. As was asked before; why did you buy a Saab? Was there another foreign car in bad shape that forced you to make a deal for it, and if so, what were you doing buying it?
I at least gave a realistic and believable reason for not buying American. I'm afraid of my wife.:roflmao:
I hope you realize this is all in fun. :D:hug::angel:

... my forklift has a tilt steering column. ? ?

Yup, tilt steering, adjustable lumbar support, adjustable seat, AND a cup holder.

There is a cellphone/radio pocket too, and a built in clipboard.

These are all base options. The only options I ordered:

4000lb
48" forks
Sideshift
Pneumatic tires

Now I need some orange fuzzy-dice to make it complete.

Let's see Pat and I just celebrated our 14th year anniversary a couple of weeks ago. Here is a list of the American vehicles we have purchased.

1 1500 Chevy Silverado
2 Oldsmobile Silhouette's
1 Camaro SS
1 Chevy Z06
4 Duramax's
1 Duramax motorhome
1 CTS V
2 Cobalts

 That's alot once I looked at the list. Good thing we only have 6 of the above.

Besides I'm sure he is tired of me bitching at him about forklift repair bills:hug:
