Since the original truck pictured isn't the motor I got, I went back to the NY company's website and searched for a different part (intercooler) that would be from a 2003/2004 LB7....

I found that they have a truck in their inventory that doesn't show up when searching for a motor, but does when you search for an intercooler. It's a 2003 3500 with 150k miles. Possibly where my motor came from. It doesn't look as bad as the 2001 in the OP, but still not the 80k mile motor I paid for.

I went and took a picture of the motor from the same general angle and based on the rust on the oil filler neck, it doesn't look like the same motor either...

Get the VIN off the motor. Did the add you purchased from have a VIN #? It may be a hard one to argue with as they may be able to plead ignorance or say "how do I know that is the motor we sold him?"

On another note, do not come onto the page being so hostile. You eff'd up, we know, expect to get some crap for it but don't go attacking a moderator. That will get you banned in a heartbeat. Tom is a good guy and knows his stuff.

Where do you locate a VIN on a motor? All the electronics have been stripped from it.

I know they can wiggle their way out of an argument, but if I contact the NY company first and get some information out of them, maybe it will make my case a bit more solid.

...and as far as your other note, let it go. He said his piece, I said mine with an apology. Lets move forward.

This has been an interesting read. Well, along with identifying the motor with vin stamp.....also go over your agreement/signed contract with them and see if they in fact violated any part of it. Not just motor they shipped you. Or was there no contract and it was all verbal? And I’d ask that company where is the Carfax and supporting documentation you were told you’d be given? That’d help your case as well.

Vin should be near the oil filter on the adapter plate I believe

NY company wouldn't give me any information. They said since I am not their customer, they wont give me any information.

Called the FL company, they said right away that they got my voicemails from Friday and to send them pictures of the motor and they will review them.

I asked why a motor that was promised to be from FL came out of NY, and he just said that his inventory notes told him that it was there in FL and he would look into it.

I'll continue to post updates as things progress....fingers crossed this heads in the right direction.

Get the VIN off of the motor, as had been said. We'll run through GM's system, we can tell what milage was on the donor truck, the last time it was in a GM shop.

This is from another thread

We stamp the vin on the motor and the trans at the plant on the motor line. Most of them will be around the starter area and as said oil filter side. The machine I ran stamped the motor and trans at the same time and I used the starter hole to locate it.

On the adapter plate facing back, somewhat close to the oil filter there is a flat spot with some numbers usually on there. It's the last 8 of the vin.

The engine identification tag is located on the left side of the block. It is on the front edge of the block.

This number is the sequential build or casting number. Not too helpful in determining much in this situation

The ID tag is long gone....its not even on the LB7 that I pulled out of the truck that is in much better cosmetic condition than the used boat anchor I got...

Also included here is some pictures of around the starter. I dont see any stamping....

I may be wrong but I thought the number would be on the aluminum adapter plate. Not the block, so they shouldn't be rusted away
