Working on the injectors late Saturday... Got up at 4:15 am made the drive up to the shop, worked on the truck all day... started the injector tip swap at about 5pm. Had a clean area, rags down, magnets, good light bla bla...

Anyway! A mechanic cleaned himself off with an air hose... to much was directed at my work area... flipped the rag over and tossed a REALLY small washer onto the floor. Had i taken the time to wipe off my table i could have taped down butcher paper and this never would have happened.

I didn't take a picture of the part.... I was pissed off having layed on my belly, with a magnet and a pick searching for the part well into the night. The washer sits in the body side of the injector it's maybe 1/8" OD and 1/16th thick... yep, very small.

Anybody know where i can get one?

WOW that sucks!!
I think the sentence in blue in your sig may best help you out. :joker::D
An "as per sample" would really help as you could maybe find something like it at a hobby shop or like I said make one.
Would one out of another injector work?? If someone had a junker laying around??

I prolly mispoke when i said "washer" it's some sort of engineered spacer.... They have a heat/wear spot in the middle of them.

I don't have tools to make something in those tolerances. If i did i woulda kept my mouth shut, I knew it was there and still lost it! Embareassing.

I have started to call injector shops in hopes somebody has a junker laying around i can skag a part from.

Pat says you also get them from the Chevy dealer. They should be around $5 new.

Now if i can find the name of the part.... i am looking for a Bosch injector schematic/exploded view on the net. Lotsa neat stuff, just not what i need yet.

Thank Kat.

In review, i think we are talking about 2 different parts. The washer I think you speak of is the exterior copper washer between the injector and the cylinder head. I went to Chevy and the only washer they sell reletive to the injector is the copper washer.

The washer i need is inside the injector, a touch under 1/8" in diameter and about or less than 1/16" thick. A little SOB. In conversation with the dealer they say buy a new injector:rofl: I need to find somebody with a core injector or who has parts. Anybody else?

might give Eric Merchant or Tony Burkhardt a call to see if they have any laying around. It seems like they keep more than on engine around at a time so it me be worth your while. Just a thought.

Oh, and they are both vendors on DP if you need to locate their contact info. ;)

Also, may give Don M. a call as he does edm work to injectors. He deels mostly with Dodges but does do Duramax injectors, more specifically, LLY. That leads me to believe he just might have some parts around the shop. ;) His site is f1diesel.com for contact info. :D

Hope you are able to find the part w/o purchasing a complete new injector. :(

I'll try Eric and Tony, Thanks.

Here is what i have learned. The injectors are so new service packs are not available yet. No parts, it's an R and R fix, dealer retail $440 +/- for a new injector.

The part is called a "needle stroke shim".... tolerance +/- 10 microns. To this point few options.

Take apart all my other injectors measure the thickness of all the shims and average the thickness, find a shim fitting within the average of all the others from a donor CRYN 2 injector, or buy another injector.

When i f8!k up... I do it right.

OK it's the shim Pat is talking about here. Not sure if it will help you locate one with this pic here

+/- 10 microns is like a mile

Yea no sh*t 10 microns....

how do i even measure that to retain tolerance between the assembly?

Maybe i can use this excuse to get some REALLY good injectors from the wifey??? I have heard of 10 hole injectors on the horizon...

Ben, PM sent.

Yea, Wade swapped 'em a couple weeks ago.

Have any idea where to find one of these?

OT- but relevent. Wade from ATS made a follow up call earlier today on the injectors he sent me. Then spent another 20 minutes talking with me about N2O, impressed with the follow up call.

Thanks for the intro Mike.

In closing BEN appears to be good enough to part with some shims for me... my ass has been pulled from the fire.:cool2:

Ok, Ben's shims where damaged in the fire that the top of the injector was subjected to.

I have tried SoCal, EXERGY, GM with no luck anybody else have one? Or know where i can find one without buying the entire injector? Can't make one tolerances to tight, i am told as well they are very hard, like rock 60 hard.

Please.:)

I'm sure you've already taken the time to go back on your hands and knees to look for it but have you tried a large magnet? I'm assuming that a metal that hard is ferrous and maybe it'll jump out at you.

Been there done that with parts before, I know how you feel losing that one little part you need to finish the job. My last lost part was a metric allen head drive shaft bolt for an 82 mercedes diesel.... as I pulled the car out of the bay to start my next job and wait for mercedes to 2nd day air the bolt because it wasn't in stock it fell off the tailshaft of the transmission, right where i left it. DOH
