I have a humming noise sounds like it's from my pass side front. Thought it was tires have swapped them around no real change. I changed the hub on that side even tho it no play that didn't fix it ether. You can mostly hear it at 45 up to 60 besides that it's fairly quiet. My stub shafts have some in and out play but no up and down play really and it's not any worse in 4wd. I'm really starting to be at lost of what it is any help is appreciated. I was able to put a quart of gear oil in the front diff the pass side seal leaks a little but that hasn't really seemed to help ether. Both my cv axles are only a couple months old changed them for tore boots

Ok thanks for the info yeah I mean the truck has 164000 miles on it and idk if it had ever been changed not being the original owner. I'm leaning towards the axle bearing being bad on the passenger side front shaft. That's where the noise seems to be and it gets worse when turning left at 50 + and quiet when turning right. Not really louder in4wd but I do get a vibration from that area when accelerating in 4wd
When he turns left, weight is lifted off the drivers and more weight on the passenger side. Which is when it gets louder. That's a passenger bearing/hub problem but he swapped and no change. OP is the noise loud enough to get a video of to hear?

If your coasting and put it in neutral is the noise still there? Also was the noise there before you changed the cvs?

I haven't tired putting it in neutral while slowing down. But it's most loud from 40 to 55 speeding up or slowing down. Any slower its quite and cruising st 60 it's pretty quite unles I turn left. But yeah I was starting to hear it before I changed the cvs it just wasn't as bad back then I was thinking it was just tire noise at that point but that's been a month and a half ago
Only way to know for sure it's in the front axle being a carrier bearing etc. Is to take out the cvs and the drive shaft running from Transfer case to front axle if the noise goes away it's in the front axle. Some can correct me if I am wrong but I think the front drive shaft always spins.

So all he should have to do is take out the cvs and if the noise stops it's the front axle.

10-4. Honestly I'd just drop the cv's and spin the axles. Then if he wanted to check the whole diff completely, just kick it in 4x4 and drop one end of the driveshaft and spin it all.
So if my front driveshaft spins freely in 2 wheel drive my actuator is bad? I also started to get a weird humming noise from the front the other day. Front end is all brand new including wheel bearings. So either cv's or the diff then.
