So how do we keep the insides of the pipe from rusting? I will contact hsp in the am because I definitely didn't want steel it's already got a few spots showing rust.
You will have to get with them Monday. They are gone for a couple days to an event.

Some of the pipes you won't be able to paint or coat the inside. My ATS hot side has surface rust. I think thicker aluminum or stainless are the only good options.

I think my old Banks boost tubes that came with my Banks intercooler were galvanized steel like exhaust tubing and the o.d. was powder coated.

The new style Hotside intercooler tubes are in stock, and ready to ship!

No more blowing off or tearing your factory intercooler boot!

These tubes are 3'' mandrel bent 6061 aluminum, and now eliminate the factory 45 deg. boot at the intercooler inlet.

Price for the tube, boots, and clamps are $199.00

Here is a few pictures of the new tube...

A little disappointing you guys are talking about steel and the post clearly states aluminum, when you order do receive aluminum or steel..? What gauge/thickness is the aluminum and if the wall thickness is heavy enough you should have no issues deforming the pipe...?..

The original post is from 2013 when they were aluminum. The tubing was .065 wall. Most didn't have issues, but some did and stated they would like to tighten the clamps more. Going to .120 wall the price difference is/was astronomical. The new tubes will be aluminzed on the inside.

I have some of the old aluminum ones. Very nice quality but they are quite soft. I can easily deform the end of the pipe using just a screwdriver style ratchet. Now I have not blown off a boot in a long time pushing well over 45psi, but steel is a better choice.

Yes I read and checked the dates of the original post but the still had to ask the wall thickness or how they are being manufactured now... FWIW worth do some intensive searches about the real cost of aluminum, surprising what the industry does to manipulate prices.

Just how much of a price increase would it be using .120 wall for both hot/cold side? Or how much more would it be to add say 3'' of .120 wall on each end you clamp? And is there not a size between .065 and .120 to try out in aluminium?

HSP can build you anything special order. In don't blame them for getting away from aluminum for a std piece. I'm sure it was more headache than it was worth. Hard to screw up the steel one with a clamp.

Why do all of you guys want aluminum so bad?

I had the opposite problem with aluminum. I had a shop install the kit and tune my truck. They didn't get the clamp on tight enough for fear of ovaling the tube and the cold side blew off essentially destroying it. The aluminum was tricky. I agree with Harbin, I'm all for the steel pipe.

It must be all the issues there have been with mild steel piping rusting from the inside out and for all the E.T shaved off due to weight reduction.

Its a big problem with rust lol. In had a banks tube and all my twin kit is steel on for years. Don't really know how its still running with all the rust in it
My preference is aluminum for weight and heat desipation. I want .120 wall on my piping. Plus you can't polish the steel piping either.

I'm glad they switched. Almost every time i sold someone a turbo kit they would either over tighten the clamps or be nervous and not tighten them enough neither worked out well. If someone really needs aluminum piping call and special order it. I personally don't see a need for it.

:thumb::thumb::thumb: I wanted aluminum to polish it! But I'm just gonna have a 63.5mm Fleece now... With my twins I used .065" wall SS and powder coated it, plus had limiter straps, just piece of mind.

It has taken 4 weeks for off the shelf stuff, can't imagine ordering custom piping.

I wanted aluminum so that the outsides of the pipe didn't rust. I have had no problems with the stock intercooler pipes warping from over tightening. But for now I will just bight my tongue until I can talk with them Monday.
