Didn't see anyone mention this part, make sure if you're strapping the axle that you don't have your chains in a way that either crushes your brake lines or pulls on them excessively.
I used to load cargo on airplanes and we used the theory 1.5g's at take-off and 3g's on landing. So, the rear of the vehicle needs more chains/binders than the front and you always want an even number of chains or straps being used. I prefer chains over straps any day, but I do this for a living so I don't have to worry about looking pretty going down the road with those bright yellow things flapping in the wind.
