I broke a stock input. Wouldn't use that to make your decision though. I was running 12.9x-13.0, 1.8x 60', stock turbo......I think I just had crappy luck.

I have a broken input shaft on my 02, although it has a suspected 343,000 miles on it I don't know if I broke it or if it was already broke.

Not a stock shaft, but last year I was there when Nastygirl broke a Intelligent Engineering input running 10.3s in the quarter.

I broke my flex plate, I would think the flexplate would give before you broke an input shaft???? Unless you are using one of those big dollar ones???

That shaft should never have had the relieve machined back in it. That's an exact copy of the factory mistake. It never would have broken if it had been omited.

There are good stock shafts and bad ones. You won't know till yours breaks. If and when it breaks ( stock shaft ) you will then see how well it was cast and how deep the heat treating was absorbed.
On the Allison stock shafts, they will always snap at the machined relieve.

How messy does a broken input shaft get?

Is it the kind of deal were you can just pull the shaft and replace the thing, or does it start taking out other hard parts when it lets go?
