How do you get 3M tape off paint?

One of my Ventshades broke off the other day, and left some of the 3M doublestick tape on the paint. Since I may as well take the other 3 off now, how do I get that tape off the paint without wrecking the finish?
Is there a product made to make that tape release its hold?
Keep in mind these have been on the truck for 10 years, so the tape is pretty old.

The eraser wheel looks like it will work nice but I had the same thing happen as Tom on my 02 and I just used my heat gun, a small peice of hard plastic and my finger. Wasn't fun but it all came off pretty quick and I didn't have to buy anything. It also didn't scratch anything.

i used a heat gun, goof off, and my fingers to remove the tape from my fender flares this past weekend. It worked but was a PITA. I hear the eraser wheel is the way to go but i couldnt get my hands on one last weekend.

Eraser wheel! It's possible to burn the paint but very unlikely. Will probably need a bit of buffing after.

Before buff (the rig is dirt not tape)

eraser wheel is pretty expensive imo. I went to buy one when I did mine and about had a heart attack when I seen how much they were

an old trick to cut the vent shade off is put some gloves on and wrap fishing line around your fingers to pull it tight, then work the line between the shade and door like dental floss... it'll cut most of the glue/tape off, then just use an adhesive remover, or WORSE CASE gasoline.

you'll need to buff and wax after if you use gasoline as it takes the wax off too.
