You don't need voltage sensing relay for the older trucks only the LMMs. There easy to build yourself, but the premade harnesses are cheap though if you don't do much wiring.

Sounds like a bad ground to me as well. When I first wired up mine I had the same problem I re-wired them and they work fine now. I did burn out 2 bulbs because of the ballast not getting enough power. Just go to your local auto parts store and pick up a relay and some connectors. Then google "HID relay wiring diagram" and you can find several images to help. Relays are so cheap and easy I use them as much as possible. I loathe electrical issues so to me it's worth it.
