C7 is much better, still not a monster power house but has some potential. I think 475 hp is an option with it, not sure what that entails? Get me that build tag and I can pass it on to the truck pukes in seattle.

C7 will run a little better but have way more pump and injector issues. So much that cat created a pump and 6 injectors kit for the c7. Replace one injector one week and one the next week so on and so on. 3126's did have some ring breakage issues back in the day but those should be all gone by now, and you can sleeve one. Machine shop will bore it out and drive a sleeve into the block, on both 3126 and c7.

C7 is a sleeved block and not all 31 series can be machined to recieve them. The 31 series are viewed as the least desirable of all the cat marine power options. I have pulled more than my share out to swap in newer cats...

C7 is definitely not a sleeved block. It does not have replacement liners/sleeves, unless you're referring to something else???? C9???

475 has to be the Marine option. that would be pumping a lot out of that motor in a truck with limited cooling.

Hey he wants 500, so let him have at it:thumb:

LOL no prob wonder how hot that thing would get without a different turbo on it. I thought about re rating my Peterbilt when I worked at Cat with a marine file. figured I'd melt that thing down quick with that though.

I'm sure that could be done I would think a bigger single turbo would be needed and a rerate from Cat with some bigger injectors would get you there. there is a guy around here with an E model cat in a 2000 pete that has Cat ET and somewhere obtained a Cat password generator and has his truck putting down close to 1400 hp at the drivers on a chassis dyno. he is running marine injectors, customer turbo and uses CAT ET to rerate and run different flash files to get it to run the way he wants, its really smokey but it does run damn good.

the 3126s & C7s were ticking time bombs when they were rated over 400hp in marine applications so I could only imagine what would happen in a truck

My ideal would be about 500 but I'm open to real world options

350 is pretty impressive in a 800 series KW service truck... Not sure why you would need 500... I'm with Catman, I'm sure it can be done but I have no idea what the life expectancy would be?

I'm no cat diesel expert at all by any means, but I know here on the coast the 31 series are hated with all the boaters. Remember marine use = 100% load on the engine. The engine does get a break in the cooling department.
