what a relief. Yeah I know I got to adjust the valves. (.011) is what I am reading from everyone. ARP's was a no brainer. :thumb: I am not sure about the torque specs though.:confused: DO I torque them down to 125f/lbs and then loosen. And do this 3 times? please help. Also since I am "in there" any recommendations on the CP3 fuel pump?:confused: I have already swallowed purchasing new injectors. the ones I took out looked like A$$! Having the turbo rebuilt and a WW2 installed with 360degree thrust bearing.
What are recommendations on prepping the block surface?

Tq to 125ft/lbs 3 times. Go to tq, then loosen, re tq. Repeat 3 times.

I got tired of having to climb up a step ladder so I put my A-arms on blocks

Just found out from the guy machining my heads that the #2 and #7 valves are bent:( DONT put off replacing your gaskets if you think they are bad!
It just keep costing you money:eek:

Don't think they can relate to each other. It could bend a rod if the engine were to hydrolock pretty bad. Would have to be pretty serious for that to even happen. My LLY was on the verge of hydrolocking one morning when I discovered I had bad head gaskets. Everything was fine when I just pulled my heads off..

I'm not really sure I follow on the bent valves. I do however know that when you drive with suspected HG issues for over a year they begin to leak so bad that the crystallized glycol builds up on the top of the Pistons. Also crystallized glycol will scuff cylinder walls.

Doesn't make sense. I bought studs last year and about 10ish years ago. Both said torque to 125 3 times. There's literally tons of threads on here and DP talking about this.


But think about it for a sec, what's going in three equal steps going to do that going to 125 3 times won't do?

Every set I've ever bought has said 3 equal steps to 125. Never had an issue doing it that way. If you start with flat clean surfaces, lube the fasteners properly and follow that spec with a quality torque wrench you shouldn't have a problem. I've done quite a few and had maybe two nuts out of all of them that barely moved after sitting and rechecking.

My first ever set said torque to 125 three times and back them off... I questioned it and was told that ARP used to cut the threads and then heat treat the studs which would warp the threads a little, now they roll the threads into them after heat treat... Not sure if that's true or not.

Same here. Torqued both sides Saturday, went and ate a late lunch and came back and only had maybe 1 that got a little extra squeeze. Been driving it all week with no issues.
