Not to go off topic here......but if your not supposed to use the full TG in a 5 speed, what are you supposed to do? I have this same setup in my LB7 (raybestos standard clutches, full TG, ratiotek springs) & it seems to shift ok....not as crisp as my LBZ though....

If I remember right transgo and gpz clutches are a bad idea.. causes tie ups.

There's a lot of older trucks out there with a full transgo and aftermarket clutches.. it's just not "ideal" anymore because clutch technologies have advanced to where you don't need it for the increased clutch pressure to hold.

If running you gpz style clutches you do all the pressure mods, clutches & steels, seals, etc, transgo jr, and your good to go.

Full Transgo was built for stock trans and clutches back in '02. I did the initial testing back then. When Joe Webb at Suncoast came out with his Alto stage 3 kit, the 3'4 shift started to get funky. Whe he came out with his stage 4 kit, the 3/4 started to get very hard and has gotten worse because of bad tuning and messing with defuel by idiots who don't know how an Allison works.
Remember that the Allison comes from the factory with a 3/4 tie up. The C2 tends to overpower the C3 on the 3/4 shift. With a stock trans and no power adder, it won't hurt anything.

I remember you an Joes conversations about this on the place back in the old days. It was school time for all of us on the forum back then when y'all would openly discuss it.

I sure miss that guy. He and I talked almost every single day like a couple of old women. There was always something technical to discuss and we tried some crazy shit with the Allison.:D

Is transgo kit for 5 speed allison not to recomend?

The C2 piston mod in the full Transgo is trouble in most cases. If you choose to eliminate this mod, other mods need to be done to compensate and protect the clutches. If you know what you're doing, the 5 speed will hold huge power and live.:D

You can use everything except the c2 piston mods.

As Mike already stated, you will need to do other mods to give C2 more holding power though.

So you keep the entire balance system intact? What are you doing otherwise? Hard part modification to apply the c2s closer to the center? or is there some more work to be done on the hydraulic side?

Put it back together factory stock. No drilling, no restrictors, and no replacement springs. I would definitely also use Mike's PR spring, and either the Transgo lockup boost valve or a modified stock converter flow valve.

Well he brought the truck back 500 miles after the build for some other work and the 3-4 shift has softened up? Im not a huge fan of how it shifts in general but he loves his tuner and wont let me even try different tuning. Thanks to Logan Lewis aka onebadmaxxx for offering to let me try some of his tuning and see if it fixes it, i would really like to take him up on the offer but the customer doesnt want it messed with.

You cant do anything about someone like that except try to teach them. If it takes, good. If not, so be it. You tried.

No, you tell him to bring his check book when he comes back.
You come back to me with my trans and a TCM tune you are on your own.
Too many idiot so called tuners that don't know how an Allison works are destroying transmissions.

Just for the record this transmission started shifting pretty good once it was done learning, the dude sold the truck so I doubt I'll ever find out how it holds up....

I follow the new owner on Snapchat and he has been doing burnouts and dirt dragging regularly with it. He's currently down at ocean city cruise week absolutely thrashing it and so far so good!
