i have already tried the steam cleaning. it takes off the real loose stuff (at 200*) but not everything. this stuff is on there!

mix some gas and diesel up in a container and pour it all on the frame with the crap you wanna take off. let it sit over night and watch it fall off with a pressure washer! or go buy a box of brake cleaner and spray the frame crap, it will instantly lift it off the frame so you can wipe it off or scrape it but brake clean gets expensive lol

Mr Judd where did you get the chassis saver for that price? Gasoline or diesel takes the wax off.

So i got to the store to pick up my order yesterday and it wasn't Chassis Saver :( , it was a chassis paint like Chassis Saver made by SEM. and the zinc phosphate is called ZIP (#834 i believe). I just picked up a cheap handheld abrasive gun from TSC, I might give that a quick try and see how it works. the gas/diesel mixture sounds just as potent as the lighter fluid i'm using now. the lighter fluid cuts the undercoating for sure, but it's just a lot of manhours to get in every nook and cranny.

Dont be too sad. SEM makes really high quality stuff. I love their self etch primer.

Its not cheap unless you get used stuff, but when I did the frame on my old truck I poured ATF on it, then it pretty much blew right off...easiest stuff Ive seen to do it

So diesel, gas, ATF or brake cleaner applied & sitting overnight followed by pressure washing is easiest way to remove the bulk of the wax/coating on the frame? Wire wheels, brushes & scotch bright pad wheels for tight places? Then wipe down with alcohol to remove any oils? Blow dry & paint with rust preventor of choice (a la POR 15, Chassis Saver, etc) followed by a topcoat of enamel paint?

Is gloss or semigloss best for the chassis?

What are some options besides POR 15 for rust preventor?

Thanks.

I used the chassis saver as my topcoat and a phosphorous-based rust stopper underneath it. I learned two things: dont use a bristle brush, use a foam brush; and use the hardener with the Chassis Saver, it took more than 3 weeks for mine to harden enough not to scratch with my nail (I did it in November last year).

I just finished my whole frame with there hammer black. Cost about $30. 2quarts. Ill post some pics on a few. I pressure washed, scraped with a putty knife then wiped it all down with some parts cleaner. Stuff is awesome
