Yeah looks good. But its not a Chevy :(

Why the heck would I buy a Chevy.

Sorry, most around here know that outside of the Duramax, Im a German fan.

19k. Not the deal of the century but it was the best priced out of any others we looked at. Most of all, we agreed on the car. She is a Ford fan so when we agree on a car, price doesnt matter as much as peace in the house lol.

x2, I feel the same way!

You wouldnt ever catch me in one of those new Cruze diesels, but Id drive an A3 TDI (or mk V jetta TDI) in a heartbeat.

Yeah the new diesel Cruze is neat (is it really though?)....but....its still a freaking chevy cruze. Call me a snob but the only CARS I would drive would be german. I miss my 2004 S4 every day. :(

car looks great Vinny, I bet you guys are stoked on it. :thumb:

FWIW, the mechanic here in town who loves VW, MB, Jag, BMW, Audi and whatever else is a German-made car, says he'll have a Chevy Cruze diesel if they pan out to be what they are cracked up to be. He's really impressed with them. That's coming from a guy who drives a built ALH TDI Golf!

So yeah, Ben, I figure you're just a snob. :spit:

Nice ride Vinny. And the only TDI worth having is the stick. The auto goes out within 75k a rebuild is around 2800 to 3400 and so t last as long as the original. My mom had her 2001 converted to a 5 speed with a new clutch for 2500 and loves it.

Sent from a black cloud and the smell of burnt rubber.

Exactly im only patriotic when it comes to the Duramax and honestly I think the Germans could make a much better diesel pickup but they have no reason to enter a dying market. Thus we are stuck with boring detroit stuff wrapped around a damn good powertrain.

My dad drives an A6 quattro. Nobody thinks any of us are farmers because we dont drive around in farm trucks. I dont really have the desire to daily drive a pickup anymore anyways, dont need to for any reason, the cars are more comfy and fun.

Even though ive heard they have their share of issues I wouldnt mind a 335D someday.

Personally I think my dads A6 iw boring to drive. Sure its got a ton of power but its all top end like any other gas motor, you really have to get it screaming. I like puttering around in high gears in our TDIs and feeling the instant torque when you tap the throttle. The 6 speed almost seems overkill in this car. 2000rpm@75mph. Going to barely sip fuel at that rate I would think.

Even if the cruze diesel runs great, its still a boring chevy. I just like the way Germans put things together as well as their design features. Im not someone sitting around hoping an American brand puts a diesel in so I can stay patriotic. GM can put all the diesels in cars they want, ill still buy German unless something drastic changes. So yeah Im a snob haha.

How much is the cruze diesel? Reason I ask is due to the Jetta price staying low every year. You can buy a stripped down brand new one in the low 20k range.

I like the DSG I just dont like the repair bills. The DSG seems to hold up much better than the autos and its very smooth except for taking off. However the DMF can fall apart and ruin the DSG which is not cheap. My sisters 06 had this happen under warranty thankfully as it was a 5k repair.

I drove an MKIV with an auto and hated them. I like the stick in mine.

I kind of wonder how rare this new one is. They only made around 1500 of them and you dont see many red ones. Manual transmissions are not very common in them either.

My girlfriend has an A3 with the DSG (2.0 gasser though, not tdi) and I just cant get used to the sensation when taking off from a stop. Especially when the trans is cold. It just feels clunky and/or "broken" to me. The shifts are awesome and crisp, and the paddle shifters on the steering wheel are fun. I love driving the thing, except for the absurd turbo lag it has. For how small the turbo is, it should light instantly, but I when I mash it from a stop, I can probably count to 2 before it puts you back in the seat.

my buddy (schulte on here) has a TDI A3 and it has much less turbo lag than the gasser A3, interestingly.

You should try loading a DSG on a trailer. Not very much fun its jerking and jumping but you want to control it so you tap the brake which disengages the clutch and off you roll haha. Its tricky.

This new car comes alive around 2k. IIRC thats when my older one does as well. Both will run around fine a lower RPM just dont get thrown in the seat till 2k.

Just a tip for anyone replacing the injectors I these if you have a stick order injectors for an auto I guess they are bigger to get the car moving close to what the stick does.My mom's with the auto injectors and being converted to a stick gets 56 58 mpg hand calc.I got the info from a VW diesel nut that owns 6 of them for some reason, eats sleeps and breaths TDI so I'm assuming he is correct on this.

On the ALH like mine the Autoa had an 11mm pump instead of the 10mm like the manual. Not surr on other models and years though.

There are a ton of aftermarket performance injectors out there for these.

My ALH with a clean bill of health (as best we can tell - clean intake, fresh filters and fluids, fresh head, new inj. pump, new timing belt et al, fresh tires properly inflated) has a running average of about 42 mpg since I've owned. I hate to complain about that because that's still phenominal but when I continually see others reporting 20% better or more, it's a bit puzzling. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, it does have slightly larger aftermarket injectors but I can't remember which ones. They were already in there when I purhased the car. Also, it doesn't ever smoke unless I REALLY lug it hard. Not even a puff really.

At least 50% of my miles are interstate (70-75mph) and then ~ 25% hwy (55-60mph) and the remainder in city/stop-n-go (<45mph). I honestly think mine's lower because it's turning so many RPMs (2800+) on the interstate. Thoughts?
