Did anybody else get a letter to this effect of the relay for the HVAC module is a possible weak link with connector that will smoke and give off burning smell out of the system flow. High blower motor speeds will show if the system has a bad relay/connector... First I've heard of it with letter today from GM they Extended the coverage for this defect for 10 yrs. or 150k mi. for dealer to fix. Says call dealer if you have problem already or had to fix it on the road for payback from GM. Mine's worked fine so far but now it's time to check the circuits on this HVAC to see if any problems show yet I guess. Just wanted to see if anyone else got this letter last week on this so you know it's an issue if GM put out notification letters and the heat/AC might crap out.

It says to call 1-800-462-8782 for the issue. Mine only says 06" also so they aren't saying how far it goes in this letter. There is a form for reimbursement I got with the letter though so you should be able to get paid back if it happened there earlier. Run it til ' it craps the bed I guess.

I haven't received a letter, but I have moved a few times since I bought my truck. I wonder if it doesn't apply to the automatic climate control HVAC systems.

Yeah Josh, I'm not sure. I have the auto climate control with the digital display and I haven't gotten a letter yet. My mom's 2005 Avalanche has the the one with the knob and slide dials same as a guy at work (2006 2500HD) and they've gotten letters.

Blower modules going out have been a "common" problem on GM trucks (gas or diesel) since 2003. This is nothing "new".
Also, the wiring connector can sometimes short out at the module, frying the whole thing. Not good.

Telltale is if you lose any of the blower speeds or just have high speed.

Take the shitx in and make em' replace all that junk that caused this I guess. Of all things electrical load has always worked on my GMs. Must be changing from time going by like 4 yrs. and it's a problem. Maybe buy and install new Autowire parts that can take this load I don't know. Check it this week another list item for spare time right?

I got the letter a couple of weeks ago for my 2005 Sierra that has the manual HVAC system. About 4 years back I lost the high (#5?) setting. Found that the plug under the glove box (above the passenger foot well) is melted on one end. I was going to solder it at the connection but never got around to it. One time procrastination payed off I guess. Now I'll get it fixed right.

I'm going to make them fix mine too. No reason to play roulette with it going out and burning up if you park in the garage and it's started smoking, burning etc. This needs to be a recall not this letter so they can skip out fixing it right before time passes while we own the trucks once miles or time passes it's our bill not their job the way they left it in our laps. Nice lap dance for sure. Manual control HVAC systems only are involved too after making calls today to guys I know with those controls I know. Once mine stopped working on 2nd setting heat defrost last winter and I thought it was the knob not notched in the groove or something no making a complete contact on speed setting dial. Anyway I'll get it done and make them sign off on it for insurance reasons too. Just in case I just want it done right on their dime...GM that is. Paid enough for this truck hell it's only right to get a fix on them like you guys said.

Go to your local dealer and have them run the VIN. If it's a covered model they should cover it.

my truck doesn't have a 1 on the blower speed...all others work fine...i wonder if this is something that would be covered?? only have 116K on the truck

Wouldn't hurt to ask. Pull the connector and check for a melted terminal.

I got the same letter for my 04 Dmax this year but its had been over the 10yr 150k mi. when i when looking around i found out that the orginal resistor by the blower motor what fried. when i went to the dealership they said sorry but you are over the miles, so i decided to fix this myself. i think it would have been about $40 - $60 for the new upgraded resistor and pig tail for the wiring (not dealership parts either that would have been $140+). Havent had no issues since just now have to get the Blend Door Actuator

If you paid to have it fixed and have the receipts and your truck is covered GM will reimburse you. Like JD said just go down to a reputable GM dealer and inquire.
