anyone here with a built motor running a girdle? there was talk about it a long time ago when Nasty Girl was being rebuilt and there was a lot of debate about it. I am curious if it is being used in some of these new builds (Max'd Out & "The White Terror") there are many one-off type parts that are never really talked about on here....there's a pistons and rods thread every other day though...stuff like dry-sump oiling and scrapers in the pan and crank machining are never really brought up.

Tim call Guy he will be able to answer anything technical like that. He wont speculate. How can you say 1000 is the mark where you need a girdle? From all of your building experience probably:baby:

If you aren't on any kind of budget I say go for it. There are alot of trucks that have made 900+ without one but holding the bottom end together that much tighter surely won't hurt anything. AFAIK Curtis at DPR is the one that made one for Nasty Girl and he may be able to answer at what point he feels they are needed. Guy and Tony B are both also involved in quite a few very big power builds and would likely have good insight.

High HP and heavy weight would need a girdle, but on a light weight ride i would not worrie. The resistance on the engine is much greater when more weight is present

We also need to take into account that alot of trucks spinning over 900hp see mostly dyno use

I'm pretty sure that your average "lightweight Duramax" is still considered heavy in comparison to what most people take to the track. Whether you are talking about the weight of the truck or the weight of the rotating assembly the Duramax is heavy in both aspects. As I said a main girdle will help hold the bottom end together tighter, keep all the main caps where they belong, and mean longer life for the crank and main bearings.

We also need to take into account that alot of trucks spinning over 900hp see mostly dyno use

For the Cummins I would say that is true. But most of the 900+hp Duramax's I know of race and/or sled pull quite frequently and don't dyno often, if at all.

There are ALOT of trucks running around over 900 and they never see a track. Custom Auto has built a few and thats all they do it seems like. And there are plenty more lurking around the country. Not knocking them at all, just saying its different than the trucks like Tony builds

You must be joking, how many mod class trucks do you see on chassis dyno's? Lol, most of the the 900+ rwhp horse power trucks are in sled pulling, I guess you could make the agrument that there a a few compound trucks at 900+ that are daily drivers or dyno queens, but the statment that there are more big powers Cummins that are just dyno queens is a joke.

Max'd Out does not have a girdle, we bought them to go in but the builder had some paticular concerns that I can't remember so we didn't put them in. One engine block was filled, (the one we're currently running) the other wasn't. We ran the unfilled block motor first and ran it for over 40 passes at 1000+ hp or so and no block issues. We don't that that many passes on the filled block but plan to turn up the hp slowely as we learn more how to get the hp to the ground.

Alright I stand corrected that the Custom Auto trucks race. I never hear anything about these 1000hp trucks racing I guess.
On edit, do we know what these trucks are running at the track?
