I played with slip limit a lot and I still never had it lock on its own below 4th gear, even in T/H.

yeah there were some tables missing for the newer stuff and even the older stuff that made adjusting lock ineffective. IIRC EFi live added a few more but the LLY were still hit or miss due to a miss mapped table i think.

But regardless, the fact it wouldnt lock till 4th means the slip was so great the tcm would not lock it. my old Precision was this way, i saw 2200rpm slip difference in 2nd gear on the tow tune. terrible. never would break the tires loose unless i was locked. different story with this G.

Tuning has a tremendous impact on how your tranny feels. I haven’t experienced these complaints with LMM trucks.

I have 0 issues with getting my G to lock when it should and running the big tune (around 900rwhp). Even turning the slip limit down in the tune to stock it was still locking (found this out when we did the 6 speed swap). The problem here is the G will not work for everyone either. Its all about getting the right combo of parts to work with each other. 37's need gears or you load the engine harder making it easier to blow through the converter. the G is tight/low stall to get the great coupling so large valley turbos wont like it. i have pulled my 5th wheel with the converter unlocked due to an electrical issue and at 26k gross it was pulling along at 55-60 up rolling hills without flying through the converter. that was in 5th gear as well. saw about 6-700rpm slip from what lock up would have been and about 40psi of boost under about 3/4 throttle.

I imagine the old 1057 is close to the G, I still have mine that I bought in 06 that’s in good shape. I guess I could throw it in if I’m not happy with the R just wanted something a little looser than the 1057 that thing was so tight it would spin the tires in the dirt just from going to drive or reverse from a stop without touching the gas, it was real bad in the snow you definitely had to use the brakes. Great towing converter though and that’s what the truck is mostly used for anyways.p

There was a guy in 2013 that figured this out and then I never heard anything more. It was a thread on the efilive forum. I'd feel happier if I could fix the TCM tuning slip limit and ditch my lockup box.

3794 stg2 with DK converter...... When I floor it, tires shred. No blow through on this converter. Next is the 68stg2r and the R converter.

Fellas, is there a write up somewhere for doing the tcm TC lock up control ?I can t cure my flare in my 2nd to 3rd shift. I think it's because it's trying to lock and shift starts the same time but can't make up it's mind

Just got done with the 68stg2 R.

This truck has 60 overs as well and stock pump and has the R converter in the trans. Converter works great and as should. Truck does run good! I understand now why others like Evan state that the 1078 might be a fuzz better option vs the R converter because I feel the truck does need a higher flash point to get up on the rpm a little faster for the 68 stg2 R to really get going. It takes almost all of first gear to get going .

Pretty cool too as I did a back to back comparison of the 68stg2 R and the stg2 3794.

Super happy I went with the 3794 as it really is alot more responsive then it's big brother. I asked alot of questions with dozerboy and James! Thanks again fellas.


As far as back to back R vs Dk converter. They are very very close to eachother. I can still mine out to 1900 ish where as the R converter can be stalled to 2200rpm. They both lock up smooth. The R does flash decently higher then the DK. Both couple fluid like a sob. On wet roads, you don't even have to be locked for the tires to lose traction, just give it a little extra thottle and rpms sweep right with speedo. It's frican awesome! Thanks for the suggestions on that too!

If you guys want, I can do a pretty detailed write up on the difference between driveability of the 68stg2R and the 3794 stg2 with Danville vanes if you'd like.

cool! Great info. FWIW, if at all possible, make the drive to Mark for the in-person tuning. It woke my turbo up like mad. Super pleased!

When we get a new pump installed on the 60 over truck. Probably will go ahead and do that as it seems he's pretty good at tuning them to keep them alive lol.

I can only speak for lmm’s. Seems like any sort of wheel spin and it unlocks. I have to use a lock box but it sets tcm codes that won’t erase with the Edge cts2. Smaller tunes it will lock just fine.

My lockup box doesn't set any codes in my LLY. It shouldn't set codes with a quality box.

09’s have stabilatrak and I think an a40 tcm might be more cooperative. Stays locked in with the smaller tunes but any wheel spin in the big tunes it’s unlocking. Tried getting ahold of BT multiple times for a lockbox but they don’t return calls and I need better support then that.

My Fleece AlliLocker will set a code on my 08 LMM when I use it, but it doesn't cause any problems that I've noticed other than having to look at a CEL. I have to use it to get reliable lockup and to keep it from unlocking on its own. Nothing I have tried in tuning will lock it and keep it locked reliably, or I wouldn't have resorted to a box.
