hate bring this back from the dead BUT...toying around with the idea of adding 2 38mm gates(because i cant find anything smaller) to the up-pipes at the lower 90* turn.. 38mm is right about 1.5 inches so there should be just enough to get them in there

thoughts?

no one has anything else to add?

I will shortly Beach , I have all the parts to build my waste gate kit for the VVT's , and have 1 kit sold already , just have to find the time to build it , have a few projects that need to be done first and then will build one and see if the gain is worth the cost / hassle , it will be a few months though .

will it be used on a stock charger truck or something like a 4094avnt?

It wont mater as far as install or anything else , If it is worth it and I can keep the cost decent, I will build one for single turbo and one for twin turbo , single turbo will be 100% bolt on , twin will be 90% bolt on , as it has to be welded into the hot pipe unless they order it at the same time as the twins . But I will be testing it on a stock LLY turbo truck equipped with a set of my twins .

yea, i meant it so we could see if it would be worth it with just a single stocker...

if i get a little time and money over the winter i think ill try gating mine and atmo dump the gates under the truck... just really hard to find a 38mm gate with a spring that will hold back 30+psi

im sure it can be helped but i dont think it will ever be where i want it to be (probably not even with wastegates) but anyway this will open a whole new world of tuning up...

who knows what vane% these turbos really like? no one has found out because they'll overboost. now with gates i could run 90% vane all the time and still not overspeed/boost.

90% probably wont be the way to go but you get the idea:cool2:

Umm I browsed through this thread so it might have been covered. In the last year DSM tuners (turbo eclipses from the mid 90's) started using Vnt turbos from cummins engines completely mechanically. They use 2 wastegates maybe you can look at some of their threads on dsm tuners to figure somthing out.

Why would it never be where you want it to be even with gates ? If you setup the gates right there should be enough flow to almost snuff the charger , DP will not be an issue with the a waste gate installed trust me , the real question is what HP gains can be had .................... if any :baby: , and BTW there is no need for 2 gates other than if you dont want to hassle with plumbing it for just 1 .

just due to the efficiency factor of the turbo... do you think the turbne is efficient enough to create boost at near a 1:1 ratio if no excess gas was present?

im kinda doubtful on it but maybe...

and why only one? wouldn't that create unequal pressure on one side of the motor?

wait NVM i see where you're coming from with the single gate...

that would be hard for someone like me with no welding experience to accomplish:(

Cant say on whether you would hit 1:1 , it isnt even really relative , the goal is to hit the best drive pressure ratio possible for peak HP , any time you tune a turbo with a gate, dont over think it , trust the EGT gage and spend some time on a dyno , the worst thing to do is over think it , the setting with the lowest EGT's wll almost always make the most HP because the lowest EGT's will always be the best combo of boost and DP and is a direct indicator that more air is coming in and out of the engine thus dropping EGT's .
