This has to be the most disappointing part of this truck. Just when I get over how cowardly the front end rating is, I get stuck. I parked the truck in about 4" of snow, I come out the next morning to move it and it won't move an inch. I have about 500lbs of ballast in the back but it is really embarrassing to need 4x4 to get off a flat surface. Ive only had the truck for a year so i figure maybe it has a peg leg, build sheet clearly says "G80". Doing some searches on here, everyone seems to like the grizzly by yukon so im patiently waiting for a summit discount code and ill bite the bullet.

I love my G80 in my 2wheel drive 1997 6.5 dually, I have mud tires but no ballast, not even a spare tire or a tail gate, and I haven't got stuck in 2 Ohio winters, the only thing one ice, the back end wants to come around real bad :D

My G80 works pretty good. Do you know for sure only 1 rear tire was spinning and that the G80 isn't suppose to work if your spinning the tire over 25mph?

I've never had a problem with the G80 either. Sometimes it will take a second to lock, but if I stab the throttle for a split second then back out, it always locks up. Usually I don't have to do anything at all.

Mine has led a pretty hard life, but it still locks up when it is supposed to. The only problem is sometimes it doesn't unlock.

I've tried different wheel speeds, RPM's, touching the brake etc and nothing has worked. I had a friend confirm the peg leg just to make sure I wasnt losing my mind. Truck has brand new firestone destination A/T's so I don't think they are the issue. Truck is an 07 w/ 75k on it.

IMHO the g80 sucks i have broke 3 of them and it cost alot of money each time. The one in my black truck has suprisingly been through the most and held up good so far but i still hold my breath when i stab it in 2wd

Im curious as to how many of you guys have wheel hopped your truck when doing your burnout/squealing tires/leave/etc like described above. That shock will snap the small parts in the '80 pretty easily. Its not a bad design, just not exactly optimal for what some of us put it thru. (Mine hasnt broke yet <knock on wood>)

I switched to a helical style diff from Dodge when I did my gear swap. The thin gear on tge left side along with the splined shaft in the locker were both toasted so I had to replace it. The helical style works great and you dont have to worry about the thin gear snapping like in the G80. I have done a few diff oil changes and everytime I pull the cover the G80 has some serious wear or is about to fail. They are around $600 from the Dodge stealership and are an awesome upgrade.

i broke my g80 doing a burnout in a buddies driveway and halfway down his street. when i left his driveway one tire went off the curb and i one tire fired down the street with 2 racing stripes in the driveway. now its hit or miss if it works....which most of the time it doesnt.

done that lots and lots of times. its still holding strong though.

Only issue i have is cominn around a corner, if i punch it, rarely will the locker engauge and produce a slide. But i attribute that to the tires spinning over 25mph fairly quick. otherwise, off road, snow, ice, and brake stands i get both tires locking up every time.

to be honest though, the g80 hurt me more on ice than it did good. that sucker would knock in and cause me to break traction and slide everywhere, or if i would try to ease out of some ice in 2wd id would do the same thing and jsut spin.

Anyone that has abused there factory locker, I suggest you pull the cover and take a look at it. I bet its not looking very good. It takes very little to shear teeth off the ring and splined shaft. Also check for cracks on the thin ring.

I have been pretty rough on mine I'm not running around with much power though. Drifting a lot on wet roads, spinning the tires over curbs and down rough roads, mud, and severely rutted up haul road on job sites. Its has engaged pretty hard several times and I'm surprised its lasted this long with the reputation G80s have. I don't think I'll pull the cover until it quits or I'm ready to upgrade.

the G80's seem to be hit or miss whether they "work" or not. There is definitely an inconsistancy from truck to truck as far as how "aggressive" they are...

My factory one worked awesome. Locked up ALL the time. Then I swapped rear axles with a buddy because I wanted a dually rear axle to fit my quadrasteer fender flares, and he wanted to make his dually a SRW...the gov-lock in his axle (thats in my truck now) doesnt work half as well as my original one did. :(

It still works most of the time, its just not as predictable as my original one. If Im stopped at an intersection and make a turn and stomp on it, probably half the time it wont work and will just spin the inside wheel...

Mines the same on the 04 if I want both tires to spin I gotta start before the turn
