I've been mulling over the idea of running maybe coil overs with a light spring or a different aftermarket shock up front I've always ran stock factory pieces didn't know what others have used and the results thanks

Not to many people on here have ran coilovers on the front of a pulling truck that ive seen. Id Go for it if i was you! Do you still have your sway bar attached on the front?

The question then becomes, "How much weight can the coil overs actually handle", b/c you pullers can hang 1000+lbs up front, cant you? I dont think the mounts or the coilovers themselves could survive that without severe strengthening, could they?

I run solid suspension stops in the front the shocks never take the weight

The coilovers will not be supporting all the weight. I run solid bump stops that supports the front end when sitting and driving around the pits. You only need the upward spring pressure to lift the front off the stops slightly when pulling. I also like being able to adjust the dampening and rebound of the shocks individually.

I think eliminating the torsions may help taking some of the lift out of the front, idk for sure but i'ld like to find out. Mine raises terrible with the bolts out even

Thanks guys. I had no idea thats how you set your trucks up. I can understand wanting to control upward movement.

Maybe mine will be an epic fail! But moving 90lbs from the middle of the chassis to the weight box and have ton's of adjustability in spring pressure and valving looks like a win win to me!

I guess I will find out in few months.

If your chassis/hitch isnt set up well enough to keep front from rising, coilovers should help tame it with their adjustable rebound.

Care to elaborate on hitch set up? Not trying to be a d/b just wondering. Anything to help on his truck would be awesome. It's a cab and chassis truck, lifts the front hard. Like pulls left front tire with 1000 lbs hanging off the front and torsion bolts out.

We r thinking about shackling the rear to help..

Thanks in advance

I usually don't have much movement unfortunately I've looked past the tracks on a soft loose track if I leave the nose high the truck bounces off the stops down the track but if I leave the stops adjusted with the nose lower on the hard tracks it lifts the nose high I guess I should leave it alone and just make sure I make the adjustments for the track

In our example, blocking our front up worked for 90% of the tracks we pulled on last year. But at some extreme examples, like Antrim, where the track is tackier than 99% of any others you will see, the front raises past the blocked point a bit. This tells me that the geometry/effectiveness of the hitch and chassis could be improved. I dont have any fiqures or measurments that are set in stone, i just know we will be changing everything again this winter. It also seems to be a chevy thing. Watch all the 2nd gen 2.6 dodges. They seem to be able to eliminate any front end lift whatsoever. Unless the builder is just to oblivious to block front up at all. Its also not a wheelbase thing. I've seen some good hooking, no front end raise regular cabs(dodges). Coilovers cant be a bad thing, you lose all that weight and also have more control over suspension travel. Although there really isnt any travel visible on a good setup.
