Forums vs Social Media

The Still Master
I spend some time on FB........I spend most of my time just trying to keep up with my dealer/reseller orders.

Customers have come from FB, for sure it a good avenue for business, but I agree with Levi, every post seems to be about leveling kits, Halo Lamps, Forces, Light Bars, etc.

When I pull up next to some ass-dragging Duramax with Forces and a Light Bar and hand them their ass because they are all "SHOW" and no "GO"..........its funny.

I own the Grandpa truck, 100% stock appearing Denali LML with factory 20's, even the grandpa running boards, but its got enough power and a full built trans to beat most anything on the street especially a 4 wheel drive boosted launch.........:D

So although I embrace social media it is for the most part a nut-swinging, sales fest with "ALL" companies having to deal with "who is the best tuner" posts and why.

I will say that its funny to see a post/question then see the same few people rush in and post "PM ON THE WAY !!!"

But its the way the world is now !!!

I still don't mind what goes on, my results speak for themselves where it matters most time, at events and at the track, so although I can see what a valuable tool ( social media ) is for companies its not the only thing that makes sales, but for some its made them very well known and well off !!!

My hats off to those who embraced it and dominate it..........it also goes a long way to putting you in crosshairs........the more well known you are the bigger target you become !!!

;)

Its fine to have them, $4k for forces vs $5k for a trans.............LOL

:roflmao:

I would rather have a trans, but that is just me.

:thumb:

Agreed:roflmao:

I've never had fb and couldn't ever stand anyone that's on there. I'm 25 and was born and raised in a small town. Always tell people I run into that I lost connection with you on purpose, if I havent talked you since highschool there's a reason :rofl

I have Facebook but basically only use it too sell wheels and tires now. Have sold well over 100K in wheels and tires over our local "Truck" page. It works fantastic. However I do not post much anywhere anymore, including instagram. Tired of the fishing for likes deal. I just use it too sell my used wheels and tires and thats it. Lol. I use forums a bit but not much either, although my work has successfully used FB to promote a huge customer base. As well as truck pulling events online only.

I made sure to buy all my go fast parts before forces lol

May the "Forces be with you "

I thought I was the only one who was shocked by the prices these kids pay for those wheels. I can't believe it.

My youngest son is building a CTS-V right now, I was giving him grief about spending $900 on a new hood, I need to keep my mouth shut.

The internet in general made a lot of tuners, builders and shops very big. Not because they're the best but because they knew how to market themselves. The most knowledgeable people in most trades aren't even on the internet period. I like Facebook and I still really like these forums. Made a lot of good friends stemming from places like this.

There is people making hundreds of thousands just by posting on Instagram. If you aren't using social media for your business, you are making a HUGE mistake.

This is a good topic

WOW! This is exactly how I see myself vs other shops. I'm small I have a 4500 sf shop on the edge of town. Old block building I bought from a repo auction. I started out doing this 14 1/2 years ago. I see how other shops have made it BIG and I look at myself and think why not me. Well its all ME is. It didn't an still do not pimp myself. Now that's not a cut on others that have and make it work. More power to them. Us still have to be good even when marketing yourself well. The big shops that are good are big for that reason. They are good and have stood the test of time. Now for all these 20 something kids selling parts out of there dads pole barn pimping themselves time will tell. I agree with Tony on that when you open face book see the same kids ( msg sent, call ****, **** is the best you just want to puke! I just had other truck towed in from a up and coming shop local to me that all the local Cool Kids go to. Its funny when that happens. I don't get on FB and brag about it I just take it in and roll. NOW on the same token I don't have to fear a bunch of FB warriors trying to run me down or pressure me to do things like I have seen them do to other shops because there buddies with *** and he will make you do something or I will get all the warriors together and pressure you to do something. I DONT NEED THEM! Remember I'm small. I don't have big overhead. I work on what I want. I work for who I want. I work for myself!!!!! I guess my rant is over sentences running on and over and out! :roflmao: I have work to do. Remember I work for myself.

Well put Jeff.

I've seen shops around our area (maybe the ones you speak of) blow up and crumble. It's a shame man. Hang parts trying to fix stuff and and end up screwing people over in the process.

Not all but almost all the small shops that went big now have the worst customer service in the business, I keep switching up my favorite vendors because the small ones I relayed on over 5+ years ago that got big now suck on customer service.

Staying small might not net a huge profit compared to pumping your business out but it's more rewarding in my opinion.

Topic

A little off topic but Did I just Agree with Tony on something??? Also I will admit when I was wrong on something. I used to stomp my feet and say it was dumb to lock tunes that a person pay's for. WRONG I see it now and why. I just figured people had more morals than most seem to have. I'm no super tuner but it is funny how the kids (new shops) want to hook there laptop up on a truck another shop has tuned/worked on and now they are a tune. Tony was correct. Damn two times in one day. I need to get back to work!:roflmao:I have half of America relying on me.

Kicker!!!

Just for the record the truck I had towed in from another shop just got finished. They put in a new mass air meter (that was the code) and told the gentleman they didn't know what was wrong with it. It had the most plugged up air filter known to man!! The top side looked good but WOW! cleaned the meter new air filter and it run like a top. I guess I really don't have to advertise they are doing it for me.:D

Depends on what generation your market is comprised of, there is no one formula that works across the broad spectrum of the business world. My clientele consists of million and billionaires, they don't use social media for anything but to keep up with the grandkids. So, I give zero ****s about it... lol

TX of course
You mean you don't sell boats to kids with force wheels and that like to roll coal? Racist!
Might be a good idea though. Then you could start up a repo company too. That's 2 for one.

Funny you say that, I work with the same clientele. They are all using social media on a daily basis.

The worlds richest people own social media companies. How could one argue social media isn't valuable?
