Thanks guys

Ya I normally have a rag in there.

When I was putting my valve covers on I dropped a dowel, but luckily it didn’t go down one of the oil passages. I was sick there for a split second.

I dropped a 7mm socket (or whatever size does injector wire nuts on a LB7) and it went down the oil return and stopped on top of the crank counterbalance. Couldn't magnet it out, finally ended up turning the engine over by hand, and it dropped into the upper oil pan. Took the lower pan off and was able to extract it. I had some choice words to say that day.

Ever since then, the moment the heads go on, I stuff rags in the oil drains.

Definitely don’t reduce the TQ on on injector hold down if you lube the bolts. They made it maybe 200 miles and where pretty loose. Might be a good idea to re-torque them after a few heat cycles.

Damn leak was hiding behind the fuel filter head, so at first I thought I just had a exhaust leak.

Did the head sustain any damage or was it a quick "oh crap its leaking" and you shut it down?
The truck wasn’t run much after what I thought was an exhaust leak started. Mostly just adjusting the tuning for idle mm3. Didn’t see any sign of damage to the head through the injector bore and the copper wash looked fine, but I put a new on in. Truck runs, sounds good, and so do the balance rates.

10-4. I didn't know if it had maybe torched a head from lifting at WOT or something.

Trucks running great...ish...

I’m real happy with the 100overs from Lincoln. Running nice and clean with my stockish turbo. My mileage is all over the place probably because of inconsistency in driving habits, but seems to be the same or better then my old stock injectors.

So 1000 miles after doing HGs and not replacing the water pump the seal went out. lol I’m glad I took the advice to replace the stud on the water pump with an Allen bolt. I do have a aftermarket balancer anyways, but nice when a simple mod pays off.

It’s kind of odd how it failed. I’ve been running water only trying to flush out the soot in my coolant system. Right away after putting dex in it I got a steady drip out of the weep hole. I wonder if the water had some negative affect on it, or the thicker Dex was just enough to take out the seal about to fail. If I wasn’t so sick of dropping the coolant I’d put water in it to see what it will do.

I joined the camper shell life. I'm not sure how I feel about it. It looks ok. I really needed more room for stuff on vacations.

I always felt like they made them a quasi suburban. Same basic size and shape. No tenth row seating but more storage. I go either way on the looks. Don't hate them, but don't love them either

Added a new corner step bumper and hitch. I've wanted the bumper since 2015, but was worried about the hitch. Well it was findly time to do a new hitch too. Now doing the bumper and thinking about it. I'm not really sure a corner step bumper with a camper shell on the bed is really all that much more convenient any anymore. Oh well I like it better and the kids can climb in the bed easier....lol
I went with a Draw Tite Class 5, because it has some straps to help support the end, so the frame doesn't crack because of the different bumper. I like the hitch, but I'm going to be hard pressed to even fit a 33" spair tire let alone anything bigger.

Got some more lights added in the bed for the camper shell. Oh and got a deal on a new "little bit bigger" auxiliary fuel tank...lol

Forgot I added some 5% tint to the privacy glass on the camper. Boy it's dark now you can barely see the cars in the rear view in the day light. It's the first time I ever tinted anything. Turn out ok got a little dust in it and some of my cuts ain't great, but the factory tint covers it up.

I know this is a 3 year old quote, but having not done a water pump yet on my 2006 LBZ, I'm sure it will come soon and this sentence caught my attention. That said, just wondering what replacing the stud with an allen bolt does? Does it allow removal without pulling the balancer in the future? Also any idea on size/length to prepare ahead of time as I don't have an abundance of metric fasteners?

I know I found it on a thread here I'll search and see if I can find it.

I'm pretty sure that's it. Removal of the water pump without having to pull the balancer

I guess I could have answered the whole question, but ya. Its so you don't have to pull the balancer.
I couldn't find the size. I must have matched it up I guess. I don't think it was an odd ball, because Im pretty sure I pulled a nut off one of the stud on the valve cover to remove it. So it was the same as most of the other bolts. The issue is the length. Which I guess you could always cut it down.

Thank you all for the responses. Interesting that the factory didn't do that from the start and/or switch after some point when a simple hardware change would have saved so much time/hassle.
