Any thoughts on trying to make some more like the ones Brayden posted pics of? Have you contacted Elite about fitting it to their upgraded VVT? Fleece is in the middle af moving shops right now, just got done with a magazine article install and photo shoot, and have been running a little behind due to those things. Just keep hounding them like I did.

The design is a continuing process. The shape will evolve.

I have not been pushing these. So I have not really been after anyone to use them. But I will talk to anyone who is interested.

Well Jon... I guess I got the perfect candidate the other day.. Thanks Wolf ;)

I have an LBZ turbo that was missing the vanes so that would be perfect. Also we had the vanes checked and the material wasn't inco .. it's stainless so I'd say you'll be fine not using inco.

I wouldnt put pockets in them. IMO its a waste of machine time.

Brayden, I'm sorry about that charger I had no idea what was wrong with it as I didnt split it apart, I just set it on the shelf when I found out it did not work.

Let me know If I can help you with anything, as I owe you now:hug:

Fingers, I would assume that you have been doing your testing using a drive pressure gauge correct?
Have you been able to tune it so that your DP=BP? (1:1)
Or are you running with stock tables and just monitoring the changes?

I have not done the Drive Pressure testing for the vanes pictured in post #1 since they are in only one truck right now. The base profile I tested extensively however. The tip in pressures were not very different from the stockers, but once the turbo was lit, they quickly dropped to the 1.15 to 1.2 range. Sometime better.

Unfortunately, that is a gross generalization. The character of the vanes has turned out to be very tune dependent. I will try to get some EFI logs of the current set in my truck and post them.

The slot has given me good enough results improving spooling to continue development and refine the vane shape. If I can get my Kitchen Remodel done here in the next few days, I hope to be back in the machine shop making a set with the refined slots. Those will get installed in my truck shortly after they are made.

Jon,
if you want to do some drive pressure testing, and more general info gathering, let me know. Once the kitchen is finished, I'd be more than happy to bring it over again and tear up the river road 1/4 mile and then head to Drew's (or somewhere's else) and grab a bite.

At least I found two things you like. Drews and the River Road! :D

Ear mark two weekend from now as a test and tune day.

Jon, I'm interested in your thoughts with these in a twin LBZ application. I'm sure any reduction in drive pressure will be great. I have an extra LBZ turbo that has 1100 miles on it if needed.

I know the stock LBZ turbo with 0 vane position makes a lot of boost, could this be a problem when tuning the LBZ with your vanes?

Still early to say, but if the slots work as expected, the small throat on the LBZ housing will actually be a draw back in a twin application unless you waste gate the VVT. So far, there hasn't been a problem with overspooling the turbo with these vanes, but they have not been twinned either.

So I guess my question should be.. for you guys that have swapped to these vanes, would it worth my time and busted knuckles for me to put them in. She is a daily driver (to and from work) and also does a moderate amount of towing anywhere from 4000# to 11000#

At this time, only the latest slotted version has performed as intended. They are still a work in progress. But I am always looking for early adopters. :D

I'm game to maybe try them in a cheetah-maybe as soon as x-mas. We will see how the testing goes with getting them fitted first though.

I'm getting closer to ordering a set every time i read this thread :)

So a few questions before I tear my turbo off and order a set..

What sort of vane table modifications have to be made?

Is there any damage I can do tuning with these vanes that I wouldn't have to normally worry about with the oem ones?

Are there any other different characteristics aside from lower drive pressure? positive or negative?

This truck is my daily driver / toy / part time money earner so I don't want to make a modification that is going to take her off the road.
