This is what i know to this point, i have done some of this.

Return at the rail is hot enough to make you think you burned your finger, Reconsider rubber hose (good to 200) remove a section of hardline return and tap in a 1/2 soft line run the temp guage off of it.

FICM can see/mine has seen more than 14 PSI, my water to air system, cooling my FICM/Fuel/IC Exchanger, sees way over 18 lbs of water pressure. 1000 miles later NO issue, no leak, no related codes. 4 hours of run time and after a hard pass, i can stick my finger in it, its warm not hot.

Drove it 4 hours today up to Orange County and back, daily driving every day.

Thanks Simon. Water to the FICM was his idea.
I KNOW that water might be better cooling, do you think maybe more corrosive than the diesel fuel? i am just thinking why the factory did it this way. cummins and cat big rig engines also use fuel to cool the ecm or ficm, must be a reason for the fuel cooling it, instead of water

Its one less system to go wrong...

No problems here, its been sitting in coolant almost a month. I clean dirty parts with diesel fuel, if i can run diesel through it i can run water through it, of course with a splash of coolant.

Its not another system for me, its just a hose to another spot. If a guy didn't have water to air i spose its a PITA.

The fuel can not cool this that much the way the lower plate is made. After seeing this inside I'm gonna redo the bottom plate & install a computer fan & have it move air through the entire assembly. I'll institute a cold air intake to isolate it from the under hood air.

FICM air cooled brought to you by B & B :D

Awsome info to know Todd. Lets us know how everything goes. I would love to do this and get my FICM out of the way.

i think adding a cooler with a fan mounted on the front somewhere filled with coolant with a reservior would be good. then maybe get a temp gauge to monitor the temps.

that's exactaly what i was thinking. then you can just run an inline temp gauge on it like a trans cooler.

like this

How many wires theres going to FICM?

12*2.5mm2 and 15*1mm2 in LB7.
2 hours to add 75 cm more wire for them all.
This was very good informative thread, I never had think relocated ficm, now it is moved away of turbos heat.

I read that you could still put your hand on it once it was relocated off the engine, so not hot enough to require cooling IMO.

The only thing cooling may do is speed up the processor. There is on 1 degree difference/ in to out. I tried using my cool can through with no difference. It is a straight through deal so there is little time to "absorb" any heat

So you can just unhook tjeufuel lines an.just move it off the motor an still works fine.eh might have to try this I would like to delete y factory felt filter an re run some fuel lines

After referring to my Kurt/Adam to English handbook I understand what you are saying now.:joker:

If you remove your factory filter, be sure that whatever you replace it with is good for 2 micron particle removal. Otherwise you risk bungin up injectors and your CP3!

I logged yesterday and my fuel temps were anywhere from 133-144 and it was 80 degrees outside. I was in ideal conditions and am sure it gets hotter when in town, towing and 100 degree weather.

So is there a general concensus on whether the FICM needs to be run dry or wet? Would definitely be interested in moving it if all I have to do is add an electric fan to it....

How long have you run it dry and is it still on that mount you made? I'm thinking about moving mine to the fender with an electric fan. I figure I'll just make a larger hole where the stock filter pulled from and recess the fan in there blowing onto the FICM. Other than that, is there a chance I could get a picture of how your fuel lines run now? What kind of lines are you using? Sorry for the millions of questions, I just want to do it right the first time.

are there any trucks that have reloacted the FICM that drive more then 1/4 mile or 300 ft and then get on a trailer and sit? id love to do this but i DD my truck so i dont want it to fail while 500 miles from home.
