I think you where smarter to take the bed off. I didnt do that and had a 1/2 tank of fuel in the sucker.....It was kinda a pain in the butt and lots of dirt every where.

Tell me about it.......:rolleyes::rofl:

Every 90's 1/2 ton I ever changed an electric fuel pump in, the box came off-way easier!!

Larry, is that red hose fuel line or air line?

A guy on another forum mentioned how he didn't return to the filler neck to reduce foaming, he actually put a return line going to the bottom side of his tank... What yall think?

When installing Air Dogs (including mine) I have cut the flexy line (stock supply line) off the sending unit and then used a quick connect to connect the return line to the factory supply line. If you want to return fuel to the bottom of the tank you could hook it up this way without cutting the stock supply line. Never had problems with foaming on any AirDog pumps that I've installed either way. The only thing I would consider tapping into the bottom of the tank for is a supply bowl but since I've never had a problem with a drawstraw I don't see the point.

Im just not crazy about cutting a hole in my tank. I have decided to run the TTS Pickup for a LBZ. It does similiar to what your explaining. The vent on top of the factory LBZ pickup is large, So what they do is get you to hook your fuel line now to the vent spot to suck fuel through and then the factory pickup spot is now used for the vent..

Have you ever had any issues with foaming and causing air problems with returning fuel back to the filler neck? If not then I think Im just going to run the TTS pickup and return it back to the filler neck and call it a day.. Or possibly if there was a way to vent the tank, Id use the TTS pickup and return the fuel like you just explained. But then I would need a way to vent..

The grommet that comes with the Air Dog fits very tight. I would pressure wash the top of my fuel tank without any worries that water would get in the tank. I have installed Air Dogs with the return going into the filler neck with no problems, I have also installed them without using the pickup and they do just fine pulling fuel through the factory pickup. I have never been told about any problems with foaming or air problems on the Air Dogs I've installed and I have run with my low fuel light on for a long time without sucking air. I've raced with the low fuel light on all day without any loss of performance. There's no need to put so much thought and engineering into it - lots of trucks have been running these pumps installed per the instructions with no problems.

Sounds like a plan. Im going to run the TTS pickup and return to the filler neck!

One more question. On the Air dog, do you plug or cap the original supply line from the tank if the return is going to the filler tube and the new draw straw is used? Thanks again:)

FYI on the no fuel at 1/4 tank...

The tank has basically a cup in it that the factory pickup sits in. When fuel sloshes back in forth this keeps some fuel at the pickup.

When you install a new pickup, there nothing to keep the fuel at the pick up when tank gets low (1/4 it seems) and sloshes around.

You can add a cup with a couple small holes in it to the pickup, so when the fuel sloshes it will keep some fuel right at the pick up tube.....

The problem is the dang pump sucks the cup dry before it refills when the fuel level is below the top of the cup. Hints the 1/4 tank fuel coincidence.:)

I just did a search and found some other bulkhead fitting talk but nothing as big as what is in the picture. I am really curious as to where he got that .

Ah hah! So I was looking in another thread and found a comment about a Hellman Pickup. I ASSume that Trentnell was referring to Hellman Racing and Fabrication maybe?

I checked their website but couldn't find it anywhere.

it's a gravity feed pick up from hellman perfromance here is a link it show's it on there home page . i know 5 guy's running them now all of us very happy . as i have stated before i can run at the drag strip on a 1/4 tank of fuel . as you can see from the design it is the very lowest spot on the tank now so you can suck it dry before you suck air . and also the gravity feed gives the lift pump posative pressure instead of it having to suck .
