So I went out to my truck about a half hour ago, started it backed out of my driveway and it died. I proceeded to try and start it again and it wouldn't start and made the same noise as when the rail is empty of fuel.

So I thought it might be the lift pump so I popped the hood, pressed the button on top of the pump and there was absolutely no pressure. I began pumping the button and eventually pressure returned to the pump. Climbed in the truck try to start it and after two attempts it started.

I let it run for a while it never died again, went ahead and drove it to town and again no trouble.

Is my factory lift starting to go out or what is going on the injectors are already starting to go so I'm kinda running out of hope and money to be able to dump into this truck!

You can buy the rebuild kit for about $20. Its just some o rings that get replaced. They wear out and cause air to get into the fuel system causing hard starts.

The filter head has some orings that will be replaced during the rebuild.one of the vendors here sells a rebuild kit i forget who though. Change the filter also and maybe also the rubber hoses to and from the filter head. You have a leak allowing air into the fuel system because vacuum is the way fuel is sucked from the fuel tank.

There's no fuel heater in the filter head, it's actually very easy to delete it. Only do it if you add a lift pump with a filter and water separator setup. If you do I would suggest going to one of the Cat filters, they're much better than the factory replacements for the Duramax's. Do some searching, a lot of guys have built some really nice setup's, in case you don't want to buy a complete kit.
