The fuel heater isn't an emissions thing, it is supposedly to help the truck run in very cold climates. But I've driven in temps as low as -12F without it, and no issues.

When the person who told me this, said this I just assumed it was for the same purpose as the intake heater is assumed it had multiple purposes, one of which being for emissions.

Besides helping with the gelling of the diesel it also helps the engine start better in the cold and helps the engine produce less smoke before the initial start up. I don't know this for sure, this is just what I have been told. I did not come up with this on my own so if its wrong I have been misinformed.

It sounds like someone was explaining the intake air heater to you....not the fuel heater.

fuel heater has nothing to do with emissions.

That is very possible, this is my first diesel truck and I am trying to learn as much as possible as quick as possible. So it is very possible that I misunderstood them.:thumb:

I'm curious about something with the filter head heater. It is supposed to prevent/fix gelling in the filter. In order to do this, does it operate at any time even when the key is out under certain conditions? It doesn't seem it could heat it up fast enough during the time you are waiting on glow plugs before starting up.

No, its on a switched-ignition feed.
