Dmaxvaz, can you please refrain from using the caps lock when you type your replies? It is somewhat annoying to read your posts when the majority of your words are all caps.

SORRY, I use the caps to log-in, and then i start typing and realize it later. sorry, not intentional

I am thinking I have a sticky/dirty injector. Reason,... It randomly smokes at idle and has a surge when idling in drive. But if I run powerservice it clears right up:confused: I am getting sick of dumping powerservice in it every fill up. Ok to get to the point, if I was to pull my injectors and send them out (Probably to P.A.) to get extrude honed would that kill two birds with one stone so to speak? I am torn between 30% and 45% over? So its a two part question, #1.. will the injectors all get cleaned when they go to be extrude honed? and #2.. what percentage should I go to?? Thanks in advance!!

I would only recommend bigger injectors to EFI Live owners that can tune for them properly. Otherwise you are just always getting more fuel, no matter how far in the throttle you are.

I believe that you only send Extrude Honed tips - so disassembly, cleaning, and assembly is all you.

Thanks for the info!! I am ordering EFI this week just trying to decide what vendor at the moment:confused: I know the pricing is all the same but I want to run some one elses tunes untill I get the hang of it. Could I not just pay more to send them my complete injectors in and overhaul them?

Jim @ ExtrudeHone did mine, dunno if they tested/balanced them or an outside shop, but they went to PA and came back fantastic, no issues to date!:D Nice group of folks to work with too;)

I like the poor man's balance test. Crank up the pressure at idle and look at the balance rates. :) Trouble is, what to do if they are off?

Has anyone ever flow tested Extrude honed nozzles from Jim? Im thinking of gettin a set, just don't know what %

Here is another magnified pic of an LB7 tip that was extrude honed, and never checked for proper flow and spray pattern at max pressure and pulse. Notice the difference in hole size.

Do you think this type of defects in oversizing could be caused by imperfections in the core before the extrude hone process? Or could it be from high egt's deforming the nozzle after the installation and usage. I know that if balanced and flowed that should have been found and never made it to a customer. Just looking for better understanding of some of the problems that some are having.

What I've seen from certain injector tests is that what happens at idle doesn't always carry over at WOT.

I've seen it both ways. Unbalanced at idle, great at WOT, or balanced at idle and crap at WOT.

Since I'm a lunatic, only the WOT data interests me.

Not trying to answer for Guy but to try and answer your question:

When you test injectors for balance you are checking the flow of the whole tip - not each hole. Holes on one tip being different sizes won't show up in testing - as long as all 8 injector flow the same amount they pass testing. You would have to look at spray patterns to tell.

The place in PA (Proformance Injection) flow test and balance the injectors. They use Extrude Hone to do the oversizing of the nozzles. My balance sheets show the nozzles to be really good.

where in pa? any contact info? who else would be good to try? need them done in like 3 weeks.

Yes that I know Dustin. I was speculating that egt's deform the tips and cause imbalances with deformed patterns.
