Well, the dealership came and towed away my truck. I told them I was not comfortable driving it to take it down to them, so they sent a tow truck to come get it. They will be looking into the problem under the factory warranty seeing how the truck only has 25,000 miles on it. I'm hoping to hear from them soon on what their diagnose is. I will update you guys when I hear from them.

Well, I got the truck back. The culprit was #8 piston was cracked completely in half. They did a full break down and rebuild to inspect the entire engine to prove it was a defect. They told me that they would only warranty the work and parts if no "visual abuse" was present when they spec'd all the parts by a GM REP. Go figure. I went rounds with them saying I was not going to pay for it and my warraty was going to pay the bill. Everything was immaculant so they had to rebuild the engine under my full warranty. They returned the truck to me and said it was covered at their expense and I did not have to pay for it. Whew...thanks guys.

edit: I think the 299 is an underboost code and the 401 code is an EGR code.

That is correct.

Could this just be the rings have gone bad on a piston, and it's just blowby oil??

EDIT: nevermind, I need to read things fully instead of just a couple posts. Glad it's all taken care of

Glad to hear you got it taken care of. Did you get your piston back or see it? Was there a hole at all or just a crack?

The piston was cracked all the way across the top from one side of the wrist pin to the other. They had to keep the piston because the factory wanted it to see where it had failed. It was a little black on top, but no significant wear at all. No pitting or holes at all. The service manager was a big help with the whole scenario even though it was very rough from the start of the whole situation. They were very resistive to honoring the warrenty.

I have two warrenty's for the truck. One I bought specifically for the drivetrain and related components. Cost alot of money. They just don't want to do the work. The factory ended up covering the cost though after the tear down and inspection, not the dealer. It is required at that mileage with no significant wear or abuse.
