Excessive blue smoke blowing out from the crankcase vent tube, which smells stronly of burnt oil and blue in color, and the engine idling very roughly is a strong indication of what catastrophic engine problem? Thanks for the help guys.:)

Sounds like a cracked piston. Sorry to hear about your problems :(

Got the codes.
P0299
P0401

Any more ideas? One injector is knocking pretty hard, and I noticed very low oil level too.
Thanks again.

Have you checked the balance rates? If you have one that is really high it probably means a piston:(

Also, not sure if you posted or I missed it but what were the conditions before the problems started happening?

Started it at home for the first time that day so it was cold. Idled for about ten to fifteen minutes. Left the house and headed down the road doing 30 mph for about three miles. Got on it hard to accelerate to 45. Noticed a blue haze out back after reached cruising speed and thought it was just a beater car that passed by me going the other direction until I stopped at a stop light and noticed the blue smoke coming from under my truck. Also noticed truck start to idle very roughly at this point. Pulled over to see the blue smoke was pouring out from my crankcase vent tube routed under the truck. Made a u-turn and headed for the house. Noticed ran very rough, lack of power somewhat, and pyro reading about 450 cruising at 30mph. Also one injector is knocking pretty loudly. Got it home and shut it down. Noticed low oil level, and lots of blue smoke that smelled of burnt oil. I will try to get video and see if I can get it on here just for fun. No guarantees though, but the engine shakes pretty badly.
Thanks again for all the help here everyone.

Sounds like my truck. Just out of curiosity, have you done any towing with the truck recently?

Towing is the primary use of the truck for me. I was not towing though when this happened. There was no heavy load on the engine at all. My tranny slips so I know that all the power the engine makes doesn't make it to the ground like it should.
You guys happen to know what the codes are I got or where I can find this info? Thanks again.:)

I realize that, but had you done any extended towing with it a day or two before this happened?

edit: I think the 299 is an underboost code and the 401 code is an EGR code. You need to check balance rates to find out what cylinder is causing the problem since you don't seem to be throwing a misfire code. FWIW, just because you aren't throwing a misfire code doesn't mean you don't have a problem. I never threw a misfire code when I killed a piston either.

Cool. Thanks for the heads up. How do I go about checking out the balance rates? Do I need my laptop to do it? Thanks
Oh, and no towing just before this happened. Just the normal hot rodding stuff.

Ok, I was just curious about the towing stuff.

To check balance rates you need to open your scantool on your laptop, connect all your cables to the truck and computer, connect the scantool (little green button at the top left of the screen), open the PIDs tab, clear all your existing PIDs, find all the balancing fuel flow rate PIDs (there will be 8 of them) and double click them, now that they are all selected, click the red record button at the bottom, and click the Data tab. All your balance rate info will be displayed there.

Cool. Thanks Josh. I will give this a try as soon as I get the program working on my new laptop. Can I PM you with any questions I have when doing this? Thanks again fo all the help.:)
