is there anything related between issues with the egr, glowplugs and injectors??

had a 0405 code thrown 4 times this past weekend (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Position Sensor Circuit Low Voltage ) .... truck ran like crap only one out of four times it was tripped. however, once i made it to oregon, i began to notice a slow crank. figured it was the cooler tamps and ignored it. now i'm back in vegas and it's still slow in rollin and its 105 out at 10 oclock. both batteries are less than 2 yrs old, voltage meter is still showing ~13.9 volts of charge.

now its got the slow start, loud rattle throughout the entire rpm band and that egr stuff showing up. is there any way this is all related or is is it multiple problems showin up at once:( .....

i read up on the glowplug tsb for CA emission lb7 motors.... maybe thats it??

any ideas??

several issues it sounds like....

p0405 could be a bad vacuum pump, bad vacuum sensor, kinked vacuum hose...
My guess - bad vacuum sensor - seen it several times

Slow cranking... that would be a power issue. Batteries not puting out enough amperage to crank the bad boy over. The voltage may read correctly but the amperage could be low.

loud rattle throughout rpm's. Could be injectors. When they start to go south they will get the "injector knock" This will not fall under the special policy though. It will fall under the 5yr 100k warranty if that is the cause.

hope this helps a little.

this has been a known problem on this truck (been in for it already).... now its gone bad again.

dead cell in a battery??. may get that checked tomorrow if she'll roll over.

just started. however quadzilla wont let me check balance rates ( i kinow that aint the fix all but it might show something) .... not sure if i'm doing something wrong or what, but when i go to check BR, it shows 0.0 for all 8 cylinders.....

hope this helps a little.

helps a bunch. thanks stew. :)

anything else you got.... i'm willing to check. not sure where to start.

make sure it's warmed up when checking balancing rates.

If it's showing just straight up 0.0's you could have a crank sensor reluctor issue. Som have had them come loose. There is a bulletin for it, i however, have never seen it....

would that cause or associate with any of the stuff it's doing now.????

i'll see if i can get someone with a different tuner to check the balance rates.

thanks

took it to auto zone. they tested both batteries. both are good but low on charge. then tested the truck running. alternator only puttin out 11.7 volts... a little low i think.:D guess what i'll be doing this weekend. ... oh well, good time for drinkin anyway.

as for the egr, its been replaced before... guess gm's design wasn't condusive to longevity. looks like it'll have to be replaced again..... only pullin ~9" of vacuum.

still got the nasty 6.5 rattle. not sure what thats from. sounds like pilot injection is off all the time now. returned the truck back to stock last night, still doin it. thats the next issue to figure out.

trade in lookin real sweet right now.... :D

could be regulator sticking - knocking.

Could be a bad vacuum pump if it's only pullin 9" could be a bad egr solenoid. Check to see what you get out of the pump.

this is the part that was replaced last time..... it's got exhaust gasses leakin out of it. thats what the black marks are... i'm sure you know this but egr stuff is something i never used to deal with :D ... not my field.

thats what they measured. dont ask me how though. never seen it done. last time it went, they said it was only pullin 11". that was ~15k miles back. now its quit again.

pulled alternator, replaced, seemed to fix slow start problem. 11.7 volts aint keepin the batteries charged.

tool req'd: 1/2 drive ratchet, 15mm socket, wrench and a rubber mallet. alt is pressed into its cradle and there aint much room to wiggle it out. total time is about 30 minutes and 4 beers. easy to replace.

heres a question and its only hypothetical at this point: is it possible for 1 or more glow plugs to get stuck "on" and cause such a draw on the electrical that the charge would only show 11.7 volts to the batteries?? is this even possible??

if someone would care to enlighten me, that'd be great.... :D

Don't think so Wes. GP controller is gonna have em hot all or none. So if say it stuck on all would be on and wouldn't last to long before it burnt it self out or roasted all the glow plugs! Im not to sure about the LB7 EGR crap but theres gotta be away to ditch that crap!

Wes yo ucan use my extra PPE if you wanna check your bal rates. Also I got a couple good meters you can use to find you voltage drop.

How are you checking to get the 11 volts?

Let me know.
