I have a 24 ft (28 ft OAL) tandem axle bumper tow enclosed race car trailer that weighs about 8,000 pounds loaded up. My Duramax with Allison 6-spd transmission is a low mileage 2013, 2500 HD, 4WD and crew cab.
Typically, I'm getting about 10.5 MPG at best and sometimes only around 9 MPG for some reason. And, I'm "maliciously checking" the mileage with my calculator each time I fill-up. I'm thinking it should be doing better than 10.5 MPG towing the trailer.
Also, every time I ask someone else with a Duramax about their towing mileage, they always tell me what they "think" they are getting, but they haven't actually calculated their mileage. And that drives me crazy.
So, what mileage should I be getting towing this trailer?
