Problem with that setup is you're converter is still multiplying tq.True. Maybe it's a TH400 with a gear vendors.

Yeah, I'm skeptical about the mpg as well. Diesels are about 20% more efficient that gas power. So if it had the same drag as a Vette, it would be looking at perhaps 40mpg tops. Still very good mileage, but not record breaking.
GM's new 8 speed is an Aisin-Warner transmission from Japan. It is supposed to be pretty stout. But, the add says 6 speed. Could be a ZF from Germany with a new GM bell housing.

He said it was a transaxle 8 speed. Bet it has the same setup ( Aisin 8L90 ) as the Corvette.
6L90 is rated for more torque than a 4L80 though.
6L90 is rated for 520ft lbs max input torque. Thats why the 2010+ duramax vans have slightly more hp/torque than the 2006-2009 vans...because of the switch from 4L80 to 6L90.
