The glide would be interesting, might be better in the eight mile--don't know. I believe U.S. Gear also makes a bolt on OD for the glide that's said to be stronger than the GV OD. I've been told that GV builds these from internals from Volvo cars--this certainly would hold up long--don't quote me on this.

I'm wondering if this is part of the reason for the 1/8mi racing movement with the diesel pickups. Life is simplier if you never have to go past 125mph. Most race transmissions do not have OD. If you don't need overdrive, you can run the factory 3/4t axle.

I have a converter that couples so fast it only drops 50 RPMs when it locks. I like it in the Dodge but don't know how it would work in the Dmax. Might have to install it my truck.

No O/D and no TCC. won't work.

With a sub 3.0 rear gear it might be just fine. A TH210 with a Trans Brake and tight converter sounds like a good plan to me. Run something like a Strange 2.91 pro gear in a 9" it might work just dandy if the weight can be kept in check.:beavisnbutthead:

If you can get it to around 3500 you should be fine.

Mike Wood runs a 4l80 in his 9sec Dmax powered Mustang. It scales right around 3600

don't suppose anyone knows what type of internals Mike Wood is running? ie. billet shafts, hubs etc.

I have been doing some searching around agood looking and found some pretty good looking options for making it hang with some big power to it. now I just need to find a truck and build a motor for it to sit in.

Suprisingly it was very stock. All stock hard parts. Just clutches and valve body. It know has atleast a billet input.

Gordon Stoney is the builder. He was the GM engineer that designed it.;)

He must be old. I remember when it was designed.

HOLY OLD THREAD!!

out of curiosity why is it so much to switch to a "duraflite"?

if one had a duramax engine that was going to be put in a street truck capable of 9's that weighed about 4500-5200lbs AND a 47RH trans out of a dodge what would it take to mate the two???

this is a hydralic trans. no electronics, full manual VB.
the truck is an 85 reg cab shrt bd 2wd diesel.

am i missing something here? all that would be needed is something to adapt the trans to the engine right?

There is a bit more to it than that. Your need an adaptor, 29 spline output shaft, TC that will mate up to the duramax, you can run a manual valve body, I have no idea what those cost. Also a shifter of some sort. An entire manual valve body duraflite tranny was just sold be Empire Diesel for a very good price. If you go with the electronic version the costs are more. Porbably get everything you need for less than 5k if you have your own transmission.

ok that sounds more like it. if i wanted to do this all i would need is the converter to work with the dmax and adapter any idea what those two things would cost? the manaul vb runs about 450-500$.

this was just a thought. it sounds like it would be easier to go with the alli.

Adaptor will be at least $850 and probably a little more, TC is in the $11-1200 range the shaft will be at least $675 and probably a little more. I'm really down on the Allison right now since I can't seem to get one to work in White Out the way it should. I think we finally found the problem so will let you know. If I were keeping the truck I'd put a Duriflite in it, but we have two so it wouldn't be a great expense for me to use the second tranny.

sweet. i think i could make the alli live with what i would be trying to do. there are fullsize trucks in the tens so i dont think the alli would be stressin with a 5000 lb truck at all. just seemed so much more simple to get the engine tuning down w/o a trans that isnt trying to "learn" and do way more than it should. and the ability to take the power up to around 900+ and not worry about breaking the trans.

whats the trans in whiteout not doing right?
that would be one hell of a fast reliable street truck!
