They do make powerglides with a lock-up. I would like to try one but just can't swing a experment rite now. Jeff

The glide would be interesting, might be better in the eight mile--don't know. I believe U.S. Gear also makes a bolt on OD for the glide that's said to be stronger than the GV OD. I've been told that GV builds these from internals from Volvo cars--this certainly would hold up long--don't quote me on this.
My Idea was a 1/2 ton 2wd with a 4l80/dmax. I'm thinking I could get that fairly light.

No O/D and no TCC. won't work.
If you can get it to around 3500 you should be fine.
Mike Wood runs a 4l80 in his 9sec Dmax powered Mustang. It scales right around 3600
don't suppose anyone knows what type of internals Mike Wood is running? ie. billet shafts, hubs etc.
I have been doing some searching around agood looking and found some pretty good looking options for making it hang with some big power to it. now I just need to find a truck and build a motor for it to sit in.

Suprisingly it was very stock. All stock hard parts. Just clutches and valve body. It know has atleast a billet input.
Gordon Stoney is the builder. He was the GM engineer that designed it.
He must be old. I remember when it was designed.
the pot calling the kettle black
Why would you say that?
you said "he must be old" and you are known as the old man.
hows your golf game coming along btw Mike? should come out to NC have some nice courses around here
There is a bit more to it than that. Your need an adaptor, 29 spline output shaft, TC that will mate up to the duramax, you can run a manual valve body, I have no idea what those cost. Also a shifter of some sort. An entire manual valve body duraflite tranny was just sold be Empire Diesel for a very good price. If you go with the electronic version the costs are more. Porbably get everything you need for less than 5k if you have your own transmission.
ok that sounds more like it. if i wanted to do this all i would need is the converter to work with the dmax and adapter any idea what those two things would cost? the manaul vb runs about 450-500$.
this was just a thought. it sounds like it would be easier to go with the alli.
Adaptor will be at least $850 and probably a little more, TC is in the $11-1200 range the shaft will be at least $675 and probably a little more. I'm really down on the Allison right now since I can't seem to get one to work in White Out the way it should. I think we finally found the problem so will let you know. If I were keeping the truck I'd put a Duriflite in it, but we have two so it wouldn't be a great expense for me to use the second tranny.
You guy have fricken alligators over there. Now if I was the most interesting man in the world........ I would drink a couple of cases of DosXX's and show that crock some shit.:thumb::hug:
