I think some of you might be intrigued by the FPV drones that we race. They have a super high nerd factor. These are custom built, usually by the person flying it. There are Ready-to-Fly models available but anyone who is serious builds their own. /QUOTE]

I want to try building one, but the amount of parts and lack of knowledge have always stopped me. The FPV looks like an absolute blast.

I helped a friend of mine build my first one as I was doubtful of if I could do it. Once I had it and had to do some repair work because of the pilot errors, I realized its not as hard as I thought.

Depending on what you want to build, I had a parts list that is about $1,100 total including the goggles. Drop the Goggles and go to a monitor and you can get it to about $900.

Bardwell has some good videos and does a lot to help people. For ease of build, you could try a Kombini by Furious FPV. My first frame was a $30 job and seemed quite robust. My second frame, I crashed enough to break an arm.

Setting up the electronics was the most intimidating thing to me, but once in the GUI, it was actually a lot easier than I thought. Kombini and FrSky actually work really good together.
