Some aftermarket remote start units will start it at set intervals just for this reason, pretty slick really.
I plug mine in anytime below 30. Just warms up quicker and sounds so much happier. I'm driving it tomorrow in single digit weather because of a chance of snow and the G8 becomes a hockey puck in it.

Do you unplug it before starting it? Some get a CEL if they don't but I though it was only the 06s+. To fix that GM made the block heater not work unless it was below 0.
The only thing wind will do is pull the heat out of your truck faster once you shut it off. The only time I plug in a diesel is if I know it won't hardly start other wise. Since he never has plugged it in I don't really see the point now. I hope you at least use SYN oils.
Why if wind doesn't affect it?
Mine never sets the cel i start it with the remote and let it run and leave it plugged it till im ready to rYour truck doesn't trip a cel light after being plugged in at those temps?

Mine draws a little over 900 Watts. I only plug it in when it is below 20°F because I have to pay for the power (and I only have 6 working glow plugs). If I had all 8 working glow plugs, I'd let it get colder. What kind of power does the block heater draw?
Thats a cool meter Dave where did you get that?Mine draws a little over 900 Watts. I only plug it in when it is below 20°F because I have to pay for the power (and I only have 6 working glow plugs). If I had all 8 working glow plugs, I'd let it get colder.
When I don't pay for the power, I plug it in anytime it is below 40°F because it starts a lot easier and you get heat faster.
Thanks. You can get them at Walmart sometimes, or on Amazon (here). Either way they are about $18, and totally worth it.Thats a cool meter Dave where did you get that?
Wow thats cool, yeah i know what your saying about the timer. My step father uses a timer on his trucks.I should get a nice time.......i do have a few nice intermatic timers maybe ill set 1 up with rubber covered cord and an outlet lol since i have all that stuff laying around.Thanks. It shows instant power use, and keeps track of the total energy used so you can see how much something costs you overnight, for example. My truck uses about 8-9 kWh a night, since it is not on a timer. At my electricity rate, that works out to about $1/night. A timer would probably pay for itself, lol.
Leather seats without heat suck ass
My wife woke up when I started my service truck this morning. (you could drive a dump truck through a power plant and I don't think she would wake up) She said it sounded like I was kicking the back of my service truck when it started up then I walked in the back door lol.
